    摘要: A RF signal repeater system is added to a wireless communications network which increases user data rates at the periphery of the cellular coverage area by boosting the downlink (base station to mobile user) signal and uplink (mobile user to base station) signal. The RF signal repeater system includes a signal tagging means that adds a unique electronic signature to the repeated signal such that position determination errors due to a non-line of sight propagation path can be corrected. The repeated signal is received and processed with a location measurement unit to determine the time of arrival and to extract the signal tag of the repeated signal. The time of arrival measurement and recovered signal tag are then processed at a mobile location center to determine the true position of the transmitter.

    摘要: A system and method for time division duplex communication over a single frequency band wherein guard time overhead is reduced by active adjustment of reverse link transmission timing as a function of round trip propagation time. A time frame is divided into a plurality of time slots, during each of which the base station transmits to a user station and the user station transmits to the base station. Communication is initiated by a round trip timing transaction. In response to a general polling message from the base station, a user station seeking to establish communication transmits a short reply message. The base station calculates the distance of the user station by measuring the propagation delay with respect to receipt of the reply message. The base station sends a timing adjustment command to the user station instructing the user station to advance or retard its timing according to the calculated distance, so as to minimize guard times between time slots. Thereafter, the base station monitors the user station transmissions and periodically commands the user station to advance or retard its timing in a like manner. The user station may transmit a control preamble at the start of each time slot to allow the base station to perform round trip timing calculations, and/or to allow adjustment of user station power or antenna selection. The system is capable of independently selecting frequency bands and time slots for a duplex communication link, providing a pure Time Division Duplex (TDD) mode, Frequency Division Duplex (FDD mode or Hybrid Time Division Duplex/Frequency Division Duplex (TDD/FDD) mode.

    摘要: A system for efficient time division duplex communication between a base station and a plurality of user stations over multiple frequency bands whereby guard time overhead is reduced through use of an interleaved frame structure and active adjustment of reverse link transmission timing as a function of round trip propagation time. A time frame is divided into a plurality of time slots. A user station transmits a preamble over a user frequency band. The base station receives the preamble and transmits, in a given time slot, a forward link message over a base frequency band to a user station. The user station responds with a reverse link message over the user frequency band in a subsequent time slot. While the base station is transmitting to a first user station over the base frequency band, it receives messages from another user station over the user frequency band, using the time slot differential between forward and reverse link messages for round trip propagation. The base station may, based on a measured propagation delay, command the user station to adjust its reverse link transmission timing so as to allow for reduced guard times. The base station may also instruct the user station to adjust its power, or may perform antenna selection in a multi-antenna system, in response to receiving the preamble from the first user station. Base and user time slots may be offset to increase the amount of available propagation delay time for round trip messaging, and avoid simultaneous transmission and reception by a user station.

In one embodiment, the interrogation systems include multiple interrogators that communicate with a base command unit to track a location of an object.
