    摘要: Describes a coating composition for the preparation of abrasion resistant coatings consisting essentially of: (a) 5 to 35 weight percent of a silane monomer mixture of (i) C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl tri(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkoxysilane and (ii) tetra(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkoxysilane, the weight ratio of (i) to (ii) being from 3:1 to 1:3; (b) 1 to 9 weight percent of polyvinyl alcohol that is at least 72 percent hydrolyzed; (c) a solvating amount of lower aliphatic alcohol; (d) a catalytic amount of water-soluble acid; (e) a leveling amount of nonionic surfactant; and (f) water in an amount sufficient to form hydrolysates of the silane monomers and to solubilize the polyvinyl alcohol and acid. Further described are transparent articles and photochromic articles comprising organic polymeric host material, organic photochromic compound(s), and a cured abrasion resistant coating prepared from the coating composition.

    摘要: Glucagon antagonists and methods relating thereto are disclosed. The glucagon antagonists include skyrin and skyrin analogs, and serve to inhibit the stimulation of a glucagon-induced response pathway, such as the adenylate cyclase response pathway or the inositol phosphate response pathway. The glucagon antagonists may be used within therapeutic compositions to treat disease states associate with elevated glucose levels, including diabetes and hyperglycemia. The present invention also discloses a biologically pure culture of ATCC accession number 74200, as well as methods relating to the production of glucagon antagonists by cultivating the same in a nutrient medium and recovering the glucagon antagonist therefrom.

    摘要: Methods for detecting glucagon antagonists through the use of recombinant DNA techniques are provided. Briefly, subsequent to the expression of glucagon analogs within suitable host cells, the analogs are exposed to a glucagon receptor coupled to a response pathway in the presence of native glucagon. A reduction in the stimulation of the response pathway resulting from the binding of the glucagon analog to the glucagon receptor relative to the stimulation of the response pathway by native glucagon alone indicates the presence of a glucagon antagonist. Glucagon antagonists identified and isolated through the methods are also provided.

    摘要: It is highly desirable to be able to cure rubbers quickly since the amount of energy required for the curing process is reduced and the number of articles that can be cured in a mold in a given time is increased. In other words, the cycle time needed to cure articles made from such a rubber is reduced and the throughput of a mold utilized in curing such a rubber is increased. Unfortunately, most attempts to accelerate the cure rate of rubber have resulted in the rubber having poor scorch safety. The present invention discloses a fast curing rubber blend having excellent scorch safety which comprises: (a) from 50 to 98 weight percent of at least one polydiene rubber, and (b) from 2 to 50 weight percent of at least one vinylpyridine copolymer comprised of repeat units which are derived from a diene monomer and vinylpyridine wherein from 1 to 75 weight percent of the repeat units in said copolymer are derived from vinylpyridine. The rubber blends of the present invention have unexpectedly been shown to have particular utility in improving tire tread traction.

    摘要: It has unexpectedly been discovered that 1-(1-isocyanato-1-methylethyl)-3-(1-methylethenyl) benzene(m-TMI) can be emulsion copolymerized with other monomers into useful polymers. For example, it has been found that m-TMI can be emulsion copolymerized with diene monomers to produce polymers which contain pendant isocyanate groups. Such pendant isocyanate groups are useful in a variety of applications. For instance, such pendant isocyanate groups can be utilized as sites to which chemical agents, such as antidegradants, can be bound to the polymer. Elastomers which contain such pendant isocyanate groups are of value since they can be crosslinked without employing sulfur. Elastomers of this type which contain pendant isocyanate groups can also potentially be thermo-reversibly crosslinked.
