    摘要: A method and sensor for the detection of luminescence radiation generated by at least one luminophore is disclosed. In the context of the present invention the biosensor comprises a grid (120) defined as arrays of apertures with the apertures having a first dimension below and a second dimension above the diffraction limit of the excitation light (102) in a medium, a polarizer (115), and luminophores (117) positioned in a volume selected from the group consisting of: the volume inside the apertures of the grid (120), the volume in between the array of slits (120) and the polarizer (115) and a volume that extends into the polarizer (115), wherein the grid (120) providing a transmission axis extending in a first direction and the polarizer (115) providing a transmission axis extending in a second direction, the first direction and the second direction being substantially perpendicular with respect to each other, wherein the excitation radiation (102) is polarized such that it is substantially suppressed by one of the at least one grid (120) and polarizer (115) and substantially not suppressed by the other of the at least one grid (120) and polarizer (115).

    摘要: An elastomeric stamp (10) for printing a pattern on a substrate (500) with an ink (520) is at least partially formed from a first material such as PDMS. The stamp comprises a first surface (12) in a first plane, a second surface (14) in a second plane and a third surface (16) extending from the first surface (12) to the second surface (14). The first surface (12) typically forms to the contact surface of a protruding feature of the stamp (10), whereas the third surface (16) typically forms the edge of such a feature. The first surface (12) comprises a barrier layer (22) being substantially impermeable to the ink (520). Optionally, the second surface (14) may carry a further barrier layer (24) to suppress gas phase diffusion of the ink (520). In contrast, the third surface (16) is permeable to the ink (520). Consequently, a stamp (10) is obtained that is highly suitable for edge transfer lithography type patterning. The first material of the stamp serves as an ink reservoir, thus reducing the re-inking frequency of the stamp, and the layer (22) prevents unwanted diffusion of the ink (520) to the areas of the substrate (500) into contact with the stamp (10), thus 20 improving the feature definition on the substrate surface.

The photo-responsive layer according to the invention comprises a first domain comprising a first material comprising molecules having a photo-responsive moiety, wherein the first domain of the photo-responsive layer is capable of undergoing a reversible geometrical change when said photo-responsive moiety is exposed to photo-activating illumination, such as UV-radiation. The polymer is of use in a method for providing an ordered, periodically patterned layer of the polymer on a substrate, by ordering and annealing the polymer in its second molecular configuration and setting the polymer when it is in the first molecular configuration. The second molecular configuration provides better ordering kinetics and permits annealing of defects near its order/disorder transition temperature, while the first molecular configuration, with a higher order/disorder transition temperature, provides low line edge/width roughness for the pattern formed on setting.

The method comprises providing a liquid crystal composition comprising a liquid crystal host and a viscosity enhancer; providing a thin film of said composition on a substrate; orienting said liquid crystal host to obtain an aligned film in a first liquid crystal mesophase, wherein the liquid crystal host is aligned planar to said substrate; gelating said viscosity enhancer to congeal said film; and obtaining a second liquid crystal state in said congealed film. By the use of a viscosity enhancer in the composition, homeotropic alignment of the liquid crystal host can be suppressed.

    摘要: The invention relates to producing an optical memory which combines stability of written and non-written data with high writing speed and good sensitivity during writing, such an optical memory as well as a method of writing in such a memory. The optical memory has a liquid crystal (LC) layer with a first type of LC molecules (102) aligned in one direction, forming a polymer network (108), and a second type of LC molecules (104) oriented in a perpendicular direction, in which the orientation of said second type of LC molecules is meta-stable. By making use of a force, exerted on the second type of LC molecules (104), by the network of aligned crosslinked molecules, an increase in relaxation rate for the second type of molecules (104) from a meta-stable state of orientation, is achieved, which makes it possible to use said relaxation for writing data at an increased writing rate.
