摘要: A set-top box (STB) of a television system receives web-based content, such as a web page, from a wide area network such as the Internet. The web-based content is provided to the STB for display. In response to an instruction, the STB provides all or a portion of the web-based content to a printer for printing. The printer can be connected to the STB via a network or through a computer connected to the STB on the same network. By providing an option to print the web-based content, the usefulness of the content is enhanced.

摘要: Systems and methods for providing controlled impairments to an optical transport system are disclosed. In one implementation, an optical stream is received. A clock signal and a data signal are identified based on the received optical signal. A selection indicating at least a particular bit position of the optical stream to be modified is received from a user and it is determined whether the particular bit position of the optical stream is located in an active video portion, a horizontally ancillary data portion, a vertically ancillary data portion, a start-video timing portion, or an end active video portion of the optical stream. The particular bit position in the determined portion of the optical stream is identified based on at least the clock signal and the data signal, and the particular bit position of the optical stream is modified.

摘要: A variable bit rate (VBR) representation of an image sequence is segmented based on a plurality of time intervals. For each of at least two of the time intervals, the method comprises: determining which of the packets, denoted by Pp, in the VBR representation within the presently-considered time interval has a number of blocks of information per unit time greater than a baseline value; determining which of the packets, denoted by Pn, in the VBR representation within the presently-considered time interval has a number of blocks of information per unit time less than the baseline value; and creating a second representation of the image sequence in which some blocks of information Bp are removed from at least one Pp packet and interlaced with blocks of information in at least one Pn packet to produce reformatted packets.

摘要: An ATM-Ethernet portal/concentrator permits a transparent interconnection between Ethernet segments over an ATM network to provide remote connectivity for Ethernet segments. The portal includes an Ethernet controller and an ATM cell processor, both of which receive and transmit data to and from a dual port shared memory under control of a direct memory access controller. A control microprocessor monitors and controls the shifting of data through the dual port memory. In this scheme, original data is written and read directly into and out of the dual port memory to thereby eliminate any requirement for copying of data, to thereby significantly increase the data throughput capability of the portal. In the concentrator embodiment, a plurality of Ethernet controllers, each of which is connected to its own associated Ethernet segment, is multiplexed through the concentrator to an ATM network to thereby provide remote connectivity for each of the Ethernet segments.

摘要: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a set top box having a controller to receive a single video stream comprising two-dimensional image content and a depth map of the two-dimensional image content, generate three-dimensional image content in real-time from the two-dimensional image content and the depth map where the three-dimensional image content is generated when a display device operably coupled with the set top box is determined to be capable of presenting the three-dimensional image content, and provide either the two-dimensional image content or the three-dimensional image content to the display device. Other embodiments are disclosed.

摘要: A single compression engine transmits first and second discrete cosine transform (DCT)-encoded signals. The first DCT-encoded signal uses at most t coefficient bits to represent each of a plurality of DCT coefficients. The second DCT-encoded signal uses at most u coefficient bits, where u is less than t, to represent each of the plurality of DCT coefficients.
