Abstract:
Fibrous materials of any kind is finished with an organic compound having fiber-finishing properties and containing one or several groups of the formula ##STR1## in which X is sulfonyl or carbonyl and A represents hydrogen or one equivalent of a mono-, bi- or trivalent metal or an ammonium group, is applied onto the fibrous material in the form of an aqueous or organo-aqueous solution or dispersion, and the fibrous material thus treated is then subjected, if necessary, to a heat treatment for the fixation of this organic compound onto the fibrous material. Organic fiber-finishing compounds containing the above-mentioned group may be for example dyestuffs, optical brighteners or compounds increasing the crease resistance.

Water-soluble fiber-reactive dyes are described conforming to the below-indicated formula (1) which are capable of dyeing hydroxyl- and/or carboxamido-containing material, in particular fiber material, such as wool and in particular cellulose fiber materials, in strong, fast shades. ##STR1## in which F is the radical of a monoazo, polyazo, metal complex azo, anthraquinone, phthalocyanine, triphenoldioxazine, azomethine, dioxazine, phenazine, stilbene, triphenylmethane, xanthene, formazan, thioxanthone, nitroaryl, naphthoquinone, pyrenequinone or perylenetetracarbimide dye;R.sup.x is hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms;R is hydrogen, sulfo, carboxyl, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or chlorine;w is 1, 2, 3 or 4;Y is vinyl or an ethyl group which contains in the .beta.-position a substituent which is eliminable by alkali to form a vinyl group;n is 1 or 2.

Diazonium compounds are disclosed which correspond to the formula ##STR1## in which Y' is vinyl, .beta.-hydroxyethyl of an ethyl group having a substituent in the .beta.-position which is eliminated by means of alkali, R is hydrogen, hydroxy, alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxy having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, carboxy or halogen, n is the number 0, 1 or 2, M is hydrogen or an alkali metal, and An is an anion, and wherein the diazonium group is bound in the meta- or para-position to the nitrogen of the benzotriazole radical.Also disclosed is a process for the preparation of the diazonium compounds. The compounds are useful as diazo components for the preparation of azo compounds by a coupling reaction.

Water-soluble azo compounds of the general formula D-N=N-K in which D is a radical of the general formula ##STR1## in which Y denotes the vinyl group or is an ethyl group which is substituted in the .beta.-position by a substituent which can be eliminated by means of alkali, R stands for hydrogen, hydroxy, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, carboxy or halogen, n is the number zero or 1, M is hydrogen or a salt-forming metal atom, and the free bond from the benzene ring to the azo groups is in the meta- or para-position to the nitrogen atom of the benzotriazole radical, and in which K is a radical of a water-soluble coupling component, such as, for example, from the series comprising the aminobenzenes, phenols, naphthols, aminonaphthols, acylaminonaphthols, pyrazolones, aminopyrazoles, acetoacetylarylides and hydroxypyridones.The water-soluble azo compounds have fiber-reactive dye properties and dye carboxamide and/or hydroxyl group-containing materials, such as, for example, wool, synthetic nylon fibers and, in particular, cellulose fibers, in fast shades. ##STR2## in which R, M and n have one of the meanings mentioned in claims 14 and the two primary amino groups are bound in the meta- or para-position to one another on the benzene ring, reducing the nitro group in the resultant compound, and reacting in said resultant compound the both primary amino groups with a diazotizing agent to give the diazonium compound, and, if desired, converting the .beta.-hydroxyethyl group standing for the moiety Y', into another Y' group.

Process for dyeing cellulose fibers or cellulose blend fibers, which comprises dyeing the fibers mentioned with water-soluble reactive dyes which contain in the dye molecule at least once the structural element of the formula ##STR1## in which Y denotes a hydroxyl, hydroxymethyl, alkoxy C.sub.1 -C.sub.4, aldehyde, carboxamide, monoalkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -carboxamide, dialkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -carboxamide, monophenyl carboxamide, cyano, alkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -oxycarbonyl or sulfo group or a halogen atom, in an aqueous medium within the pH range 4-11.
