    摘要: A composition for the sequestration and sustained delivery of an active ingredient in the form of porous particles, the composition comprising the product of the controlled dehydration of particles formed by the reaction of a polymeric anionic material with a polyvalent cation. The composition may be loaded with an active ingredient by soaking the particles in a solution of the active ingredient; and may then be dehydrated. They may then be soaked in a solution of a polymeric cationic material, to form particles providing the controlled release of the active ingredient.

    摘要: A family of composites suitable for use as materials of construction for implantable medical devices is disclosed. In the most preferred embodiment, the substrate polymer is an ortho ester polymer formed by the reaction of a ketene acetal having a functionality of two or more with a polyol. Also in the most preferred embodiment, the reinforcement material in the composites is calcium-sodium metaphosphate ("CSM") fibers. In other embodiments, the composites may replace either (but not both) of the substrate or the reinforcement with materials of the art.

The rearrangement is accomplished by mixing the allyl acetal with a solution of an alkali metal lower alkyl in a water-soluble primary amine. After several hours contact with the allyl acetal with the solution ketene acetal formed during the contact is separated from the reaction mixture.

    摘要: The invention concerns orthoester and orthocarbonate polymers having a repeating mer comprising a hydrocarbon radical and a symmetrical dioxycarbon unit of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a multivalent hydrocarbon radical, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are hydrocarbon radicals with at least one of R.sub.2 or R.sub.3 bonded to the dioxycarbon through an oxygen linkage, and which polymers are synthesized by reacting a polyol with an orthoester or orthocarbonate. The polymers are useful for making articles of manufacture, including devices and coatings for delivering beneficial agents.

    摘要: A device for the controlled continuous administration of an active agent to an environment of use is disclosed. The device comprises a body of erodible agent release rate controlling material containing an agent dispersed therethrough; the rate controlling material is a hydrophobic poly(carboxylic acid) having one ionizable carboxylic hydrogen for each 8 to 12 carbon atoms, which material erodes at a controlled and continuous rate over a prolonged period of time in response to the environment by a process of carboxylic hydrogen ionization, thereby releasing the dispersed agent at a controlled rate over a prolonged period of time.
