    摘要: A single-pole type magnetic head for perpendicular recording which reduces the amount of side writing even in the presence of a yaw angle and prevents the effective track width from decreasing, and a magnetic recording disk apparatus using the same. A main pole is composed of at least two portions where the width of the first portion continuously increases from the upstream side to the downstream side in the medium moving direction and the width of the second portion is the same as the width of the first portion's downstream edge in the medium moving direction and is constant from the upstream side to the downstream side in the medium moving direction. This prevents the recording magnetic field strength from decreasing at the track edge and increases the effective track width while suppressing side writing, thereby realizing a magnetic recording disk apparatus with a high track density.

    摘要: A magnetoresistive effect head which can produce a high reproduced output independently from a strength of a magnetic domain control layer even when an electrode spacing is small, and a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus using the same are provided. A magnetoresistive effect film is formed by a stacked layer of a first ferromagnetic film, a non-magnetic conductive film and a second ferromagnetic film. The second ferromagnetic film is stacked on an antiferromagnetic film, and magnetic domain control layers are arranged on the widthwise opposite sides of the magnetoresistive effect film. A pair of electrodes are arranged on each magnetic domain control layers with the electrode spacing being smaller than the width of the magnetoresistive effect film so that a current flows only in a central area of the magnetoresistive effect film.

    摘要: In a magnetic head to be used for a shingled recording method, degradation of a signal resolution and a decrease in a signal-to-noise ratio which are caused by an asymmetrical inter-bit transition curvature are prevented, and a low bit error rate is realized. A magnetic head includes a recording head and a reproducing head. The reproducing head includes a pair of magnetic shields and a sensor sandwiched between the pair of magnetic shields. The gap between the magnetic shields is formed so that the longitudinal direction thereof gets inclined by a certain angle with respect to a cross-track direction in line with the shape of a curvature of an inter-bit transition on an effective record track in a record pattern recorded on a recording medium.

    摘要: A perpendicular magnetic recording medium for thermo-magnetic printing has an ultra-high recording density and is resistant to thermal decay of magnetization. An intermediate layer of the medium is provided between a first recording layer using a low-noise Co alloy ferromagnetic substance and a second recording layer using a ferrimagnetic substance (e.g., a rare-earth element-transition metal compound) having a compensation temperature below an operation ambient temperature. A magnetic field is applied thereto to form a magnetization pattern on the first recording layer. It is then heated-up to be printed onto the second recording layer, which has a higher coercivity at the ambient temperature, and a recording field is suitably set to form a magnetization pattern only on the first recording layer. The magnetization pattern is printed from the first recording layer to the second recording layer.

    摘要: A magnetic head is provided with a magnetoresistive sensor scarcely susceptible to heat and provided with a fixed layer capable of creating a pinned magnetic field of a sufficient intensity. The magnetic head comprises a magnetoresistive effect film having a free layer (21), a fixed layer (105) and an intermediate layer (104), and a pair of electrodes (25a, 25b) for supplying current to the magnetoresistance effect film. The free layer (21) is formed of a ferromagnetic material and the intermediate layer (104) is formed of a nonmagnetic material. The fixed layer (105) has a first ferromagnetic film (22), a second ferromagnetic film (24) and a nonmagnetic film (23) sandwiched between the first and the second ferromagnetic films (22, 24). The second ferromagnetic film (24) farther from the free layer (21) than the first ferromagnetic layer (22) is formed of a material having the property of permanent magnets. The magnetization of the fist ferromagnetic film (22) and that of the second ferromagnetic film (24) are coupled in an antiferromagnetic coupling fashion.
