Abstract: A motor controller for an electric motor includes an enclosure and a processing device, memory device, and wireless transmitter disposed within the enclosure. The processing device is configured to control the electric motor and collect operating information from the electric motor during operation of the electric motor. The memory device is communicatively coupled to the processing device. The memory device is configured to receive and store the operating information collected during operation of the electric motor. The wireless transmitter is communicatively coupled to the processing device and the memory device. The wireless transmitter is configured to transmit the operating information stored on the memory device to a computing device disposed remotely from the electric motor.

Abstract: An electric motor assembly includes a bearing assembly including a rotating component and at least one stationary component. The electric motor assembly also includes an impeller coupled to the rotating component. The impeller includes an inlet and an outlet and is configured to direct a fluid between the inlet and the outlet. The electric motor assembly also includes a rotor assembly directly coupled to the impeller. A fluid flow channel is defined between the rotating component and the at least one stationary component. The flow channel includes a first end proximate the impeller outlet and a second end proximate the impeller inlet.

Abstract: A method of encapsulating a printed circuit board of a motor controller with a potting material includes inserting the printed circuit board into a recess formed in a base portion of an encapsulation assembly such that a bottom surface of the printed circuit board is spaced from a surface of the recess. The method also includes coupling a cover portion of the encapsulation assembly to the base portion to define a cavity therebetween. The method further includes injecting the potting material into the cavity through at least one injection port defined in at least one of the base portion and the cover portion such that the printed circuit board is at least partially coated in the potting material.

Abstract: A hydrodynamic bearing assembly includes a first member including a first engaging surface. The first member is stationary in a non-operating mode of the bearing assembly and rotates about an axis in an operational mode of the bearing assembly. The first member includes a first bore and a shaft positioned within the first bore and including an end surface. The hydrodynamic bearing assembly also includes a second member including a second bore and a second engaging surface positioned adjacent the first engaging surface. The second member is stationary in both the non-operating mode and the operational mode of the bearing assembly. The hydrodynamic bearing assembly further includes a spacer member positioned within the second bore and is configured to engage the first member to define a first gap between the first engaging surface and the second engaging surface in the non-operational mode.

Abstract: An electric motor assembly includes a stator assembly and a rotor assembly positioned adjacent the stator assembly to define an axial gap therebetween. The stator assembly is configured to induce a first axial force on the rotor assembly. The electric motor assembly also includes an impeller directly coupled to the rotor assembly opposite the stator assembly such that the rotor assembly and the impeller are configured to rotate about an axis. A fluid channeled by the impeller induces a second axial force on the impeller. The electric motor assembly further includes a hydrodynamic bearing assembly including a rotating member coupled to the rotor assembly and stationary member at least partially circumscribing the rotating member such that rotation of the rotating member with respect to the stationary member is configured to induce a third axial force on the rotor assembly.

Abstract: A draft inducer blower assembly for use with a water heater has a housing, a motor, and a fan. The housing has an exhaust volute surrounding the fan and a base adapted to be mounted atop a water heater. The base has an inlet port adapted to receive exhaust gas from the water heater. The fan is connected to the motor for rotation about a rotation axis. The exhaust volute has a cut-off at a cut-off angle relative to the rotation axis. The exhaust volute has an exhaust outlet passageway that extends to an exhaust port. The exhaust port is lower than the top of the exhaust volute.

Abstract: A motor controller for an electric motor includes a drive circuit that regulates power supplied to a stator of the electric motor to turn a rotor. The motor controller includes a communication interface that receives coefficients. The motor controller includes a processor coupled to the drive circuit. The processor receives an airflow rate demand, computes a speed, computes a torque set point as a function of at least a sum of first and second terms. The first term is defined as the first coefficient multiplied by the airflow rate demand raised to a power greater than one, and the second term is defined as the second coefficient multiplied by the speed raised to a power greater than one. The processor controls the drive circuit based on the torque set point to supply electrical power to the electric motor.
