A system for coating of a donor material onto a laser radiation transparent substrate, the system including a donor material applicator, applying donor material to the laser radiation transparent substrate, a multi-pass precise donor material thickness determiner for providing a desired thickness of the donor material on the laser radiation transparent substrate and including a linearly displaceable blade support, a layer thickness uniformizing blade lockably pivotably mounted onto the linearly displaceable blade support about a pivot axis, the blade having a straight edge and a blade position maintainer operative for maintaining the straight edge at a desired separation distance from the laser radiation transparent substrate, the separation distance being uniform along the straight edge of the layer thickness uniformizing blade.

A blade attachment tool includes a first support member supported by a pressing support portion supporting a blade formed of an elastic member configured to wipe/scrape liquid/solids spreading on an abutment surface by being pressed against the abutment surface and being long in one direction such that the blade is pressed against the abutment surface with a predetermined pressing force, a second support member supported to swing about a swing shaft extending in a longitudinal direction of the blade with respect to the first support member and configured such that a base end side of the blade is attached thereto, and an energizing member configured to apply a reaction force to a friction force that causes the second support member to swing about the swing shaft with respect to the first support member when the blade is pressed against the abutment surface to slide relatively to the abutment surface.

A device for applying a free-flowing medium to a continuously conveyed web, wherein the medium can be transferred to the web by a continuously rotating transfer (gravure) roll. An application head is provided in order to transfer the free-flowing medium to the circumference of the gravure roll. The application head includes a chamber which is open toward the circumference of the gravure roll and has an inlet and an outlet for the medium to be applied. The front outer face, in the direction of rotation, of the chamber is delimited by a front doctor blade and the rear outer face, in the direction of rotation, is delimited by a rear doctor blade. Both doctor blades are seated against the circumference of the gravure roll. The front doctor blade can be pressed against the circumference of the gravure roll by a pressing body with an adjustable pressing force.

Methods and apparatuses for coating at least a portion of a curved surface of a lens with a polarizing liquid are disclosed throughout the specification. For example, there is provided a method comprising providing a lens having a curved surface, and applying a polarizing liquid to at least a portion of the curved surface by shear flow with a flexible apparatus. Other methods are included. Apparatuses include ophthalmic lenses having polarized coatings formed according to any of the disclosed methods.

A coating layer forming apparatus for minimizing the amount of the coating solution when forming a coating layer on a part and enhancing a dimensional precision of a formed surface of the coating layer. The coating layer forming apparatus has a rotation supporting device, a feeder (15), a layer former, and a coating removing device, maintains the inclined angle of a coating former for forming the coating layer at 30 to 70 degrees with respect to a tangential direction of rotation of a coating of a coating surface, and removes excess coating solution deposited on the coating former by a coating removing device.

A doctor bed formed as a profiled strip having a continuous groove in the axial direction in order to hold a rotatable metering rod, which can be pressed against a moving surface and which meters and/or equalizes liquid to pasty medium applied to the moving surface. The moving surface, in the case of direct application of the medium, being one side of a paper, board or other fibrous web; and in the case of indirect application, being the surface of a transfer element which transfers the application medium to the fibrous web. Also disclosed is, for the production of the doctor bed, a material or a material combination selected including in a first variant of a homogeneous mixture of 70 to 99.8% polyethylene and 0.2 to 30% by weight of a wax of animal, vegetable, mineral or synthetic origin that is solid or liquid at room temperature.
