Abstract:
An improved tensioned spoke bicycle wheel. The wheel comprises a hub, a rim, spokes and spoke nipples. A spoke that is connected to the left side of the hub is paired, at the rim, with a spoke that is connected to the right side of the hub. For each pair of spokes, there is provided a spoke plate that is positioned between the rim floor and the nipples. Each of the spokes in a pair extends through adjacent spoke bores in the rim, through spoke bores in the spoke plate and into the spoke nipples. The spoke plates distribute the forces associated with the tensioned spokes over a substantial portion of the rim floor. The spoke plate may have a flat surface where it supports the nipples or a socket shaped surface. In the latter case, the nipples have a ball shaped lower end that seat in the socket.
Abstract:
An improved wheel rim, an improved spoke nipple and an improved wheel are disclosed. The rim has spoke openings and a threaded end of each spoke extends therethrough. An internal nipple with a threaded bore is connected to the threaded spoke end so that a first, ball-shaped, rounded end of the nipple is seated on the rim. A portion of the rim around each spoke opening is deformed or removed so as to define a portion of a socket with the same curvature as the first end of the nipple. This minimizes the required diameter of the spoke opening in the rim and maximizes the area of the rim socket surface. The invention also extends to an external nipple with a rounded collar in combination with a rim including a concave rounded rim surface formed in the rim itself.
Abstract:
A bicycle wheel rim used for mounting a plurality of spokes thereon includes spaced left and right annular tire retaining walls adapted for retaining a bicycle tire therebetween, and an annular spoke mounting wall. Each of the tire retaining walls has an inner edge proximate to a central point of the wheel rim, and an outer edge distal to the central point of the wheel rim. The spoke mounting wall interconnects the inner edges of the tire retaining walls, and has a central bridging portion with left and right terminating edges, a left corner block which interconnects the inner edge of the left tire retaining wall and the left terminating edge of the bridging portion and which is formed with a set of left spoke fastening holes, and a right corner block which interconnects the inner edge of the right tire retaining wall and the right terminating edge of the bridging portion and which is formed with a set of right spoke fastening holes that are staggered with respect to the left spoke fastening holes.
Abstract:
A composite wheel using preheaded spokes insertable in a rim, a hub notched to receive and position the spokes and two plastic resin hub inserts compressively mating with the hub so as to secure the spokes therebetween. A method of assembly is also described.
Abstract:
A wheel with high strength flexible spokes of the present invention, including a rim and hub, and spokes between the rim and hub made of fibrous material that causes the spokes to be both lighter in weight and stronger than comparable steel spokes. The spokes are also flexible and resilient such that they can bend while retaining their integrity and strength. The wheel includes a nipple within the rim that receives the high strength spoke and allows for flexibility in adapting the spoke to wheels having differing shapes and sizes.
Abstract:
A method for assembling or disassembling spokes of a tubeless wheel includes following steps: selecting a rim, assembling an adaptor onto an assembling tool, assembling the adaptor to the position hole, assembling a spoke, assembling the spoke to the adaptor and disassembling the assembling tool from the adaptor. Therefore, a user can assemble or disassemble the spokes easily and conveniently.

Abstract:
A bicycle rim is provided with an annular tire mounting part, an annular spoke mounting part and a pair of side walls. The annular tire mounting part includes an outer bridge. The annular spoke mounting part includes a plurality of spoke openings disposed at predetermined intervals along a circumferential direction of the annular spoke mounting part. The annular spoke mounting part further includes at least one recess disposed in an area between two adjacent ones of the spoke openings. The at least one recess extends less than half of a circumferential distance between the two adjacent ones of the spoke openings. The side walls extend radially from the annular spoke mounting and the outer bridge to define an annular interior space. The outer bridge includes a through hole that at least partially aligns with the at least one recess as viewed in a radial direction of the bicycle rim.
Abstract:
A composite material wheel rim structure includes an inner rim surface and a rigid inner lining material encased by the inner rim surface to form an integrated composite structure capable of sustaining the drilling of spaced threaded holes of desired orientations and diameters for threaded engagement with corresponding attachment caps of wheel spokes so that the tightness of each spoke may be varied by the depth. The cap is threaded into the threaded hole.
