Abstract:
A hollow bicycle rim includes a pair of side portions, an outer portion and a spoke attachment portion with a plurality of spoke openings. The side portions have ribs to form opposing tire supporting surfaces. The outer portion extends between the side portions. The outer portion includes a pair of annular inclined surfaces extending radially inwardly from the side portions with a curved connecting surface extending therebetween. The spoke attachment portion is rigidly coupled with the side portions and the outer portion. The inclined surfaces are preferably angled between three degrees and seventeen degrees. The outer annular portion preferably has at least one aperture, but fewer than half of the number of spoke openings. The side portions preferably have a pair of inner bent sections. A pair of spoke attachment sections with the plurality of circumferentially arranged spoke openings preferably have radial lengths larger than the spoke openings.
Abstract:
A tire noise damper to be disposed in an annular tire cavity formed between a wheel rim and a pneumatic tire mounted thereon. The damper comprises an annular band-like body which is made of an elastomeric material and provided with at least one generally U-shaped cut oriented in a circumferential direction. The cutout formed by the at least one U-shaped cut forms a flap risen by a centrifugal force during running, and the remainder forms a base band to be put around a bottom of the wheel rim in an elongated condition. In order to reduce resonance of the air in the tire cavity in not only the fundamental mode but also the higher harmonic modes, the flap may have a relatively long length such that, when risen, a radially outer end portion thereof comes into contact with the radially inside of a tread portion of the tire. Further, the flap may be made of nonwoven fabric at least partially.
Abstract:
Wheel rim comprising two rim seats having different diameters, inclined outwards and extended axially outwards by two humps of small height, the rim seat of smaller diameter being connected axially on the inside to a bearing surface via a truncated conical portion and the rim seat of larger diameter being connected axially on the inside to the said bearing surface by a rib of small or zero height, whose axially interior wall has a generatrix that makes with the rotation axis an angle open radially and axially outwards and at the most equal to 30°, characterised in that the said rib, which has an axially inside wall of axial width at most equal to the axial width of the said second seat is provided circumferentially with at least two transverse grooves of small size.
Abstract:
A vehicle wheel with a one-piece rim and tubeless pneumatic tire comprises an emergency rolling surface on a radially exterior shell of the rim, an elastic bead, and a one-piece toroidal chamber at each axial front end of the rim. Each chamber includes a closed radially interior chamber wall, a closed radially exterior chamber wall, a closed axially interior chamber wall, and an axially exterior chamber wall axially closed in a radially exterior area defining a radially inwardly directed flange and open in a radially interior area. A filler ring is radially secured in each chamber on the radially interior chamber wall. Each side wall of the tire extends inwardly from the axially exterior wall through the opening, and the head is embedded in the chamber such that the bead lies across the axial extent of the filler ring, the head and the filler ring completely filling the chamber.
Abstract:
A wheel includes a rim having two sidewalls and a groove is defined between the two sidewalls. A plurality of apertures and a valve receiving aperture are respectively defined through the rim. A seal member is located in the groove and has a hole defined therethrough. The hole is located in alignment with the valve receiving aperture. Two sides of the seal member are located on tops of the two sidewalls of the rim so that when a tire is engaged with the groove, the two sides of the seal member on the tops of the two sidewalls are respectively compressed by the tire.
Abstract:
A tire apparatus for driving a vehicle allows the vehicle to be driven during periods of both low tire pressure and normal tire pressure. The tire apparatus has a tire that has a tread section. The tire has a pair of side walls that are located adjacent to the tread section. A first bead is located at an end of one of the side walls, and a second bead is located at an end of the other side wall. A wheel is also present that has a rim with a first bead seat and a second bead seat. The wheel is configured for attachment to the vehicle. The wheel has a support member for engaging the tire during periods of low tire pressure. At least one of the first and second bead seats has a plurality of friction members to prevent relative rotational movement between the tire and the rim.
Abstract:
A bicycle rim includes side portions with an outer portion extending between the side portions to form a pair of outer corners, and a spoke attachment portion. The outer portion includes a pair of ridges spaced from the outer corners. The ridges preferably divide a pair of inclined surfaces. The side portions preferably include a pair of ground braking surfaces with a pair of sloping surfaces extending from the braking surfaces to a pair of outer side surfaces. A tubeless bicycle tire is mounted on the rim and includes a tread portion, a pair of sidewalls and a pair of beads. Each bead has an inner foot surface supported on one of the ridges. Preferably, each bead has a reinforcement member with a center axis. Each ridge is preferably located between one of the center axes and an inner edge of one of the inner foot surfaces.
Abstract:
A wheel having a rim with first and second rim seats, at least the first rim seat having a generatrix, the axially outer end of which is on a circle of diameter less than the diameter of the circle on which the axially inner end is located, the first rim seat being extended axially outward by a low protrusion or hump and axially inward by a bearing surface intended to receive a tread support ring, and a wheel disk, joined on the side of the first rim seat to the radially inner wall of the rim, characterized in that the rim bearing surface includes first and second support zones separated by a circumferential groove which opens radially outward.
Abstract:
A bicycle wheel rim used for mounting a plurality of spokes thereon includes spaced left and right annular tire retaining walls adapted for retaining a bicycle tire therebetween, and an annular spoke mounting wall. Each of the tire retaining walls has an inner edge proximate to a central point of the wheel rim, and an outer edge distal to the central point of the wheel rim. The spoke mounting wall interconnects the inner edges of the tire retaining walls, and has a central bridging portion with left and right terminating edges, a left corner block which interconnects the inner edge of the left tire retaining wall and the left terminating edge of the bridging portion and which is formed with a set of left spoke fastening holes, and a right corner block which interconnects the inner edge of the right tire retaining wall and the right terminating edge of the bridging portion and which is formed with a set of right spoke fastening holes that are staggered with respect to the left spoke fastening holes.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a tubeless bicycle tire and rim. The rim is formed with opposing recesses configured to engage corresponding beads formed on the tire. With the beads engaged in the recesses, the tire and rim seal for form an air tight, sealed chamber such that no inner tube is necessary. The rim is formed with a single aperture having a valve installed therein. Preferably, the valve is formed with a ring which extends into the air tight, sealed chamber. In the event of a flat tire, the tire may be removed from the rim. The valve may also be removed by grasping the ring and pulling.
