Abstract: This invention relates to a bobbin sorting and batch transfer apparatus which can collect a predetermined number of bobbins from vertically stacked storage racks each of which has a discharge port. A carriage is provided on which there are mounted one or more guide elements including vertical guides which can be juxtaposed proximate to the discharge ports. A chain drive bearing rollers is arranged to form holding bins or compartments which can be advanced in a planetary motion along the various guides. The rollers are spaced from the vertical guides to maintain the bobbins in equilibrium by arranging same to roll against the vertical guides, the rollers urging the bobbins to move through a closed loop path which can position any holding bin or compartment into proximate opposition to any discharge port in a given column of racks. Gates on the racks selectively release a bobbin wound with wires having specified characteristics into the selected bin or compartment, the chain drive being reversible to minimize distance traveled by any given bin or compartment to a discharge port. An ejection member is provided for ejecting all of the bobbins loaded onto the apparatus in a desired sequence independently of the manner or order in which the bobbins are initially placed into the holding bins or compartments.

Abstract: Large rolls of partially overlapping paper sheets which are convoluted onto the cores of reels are stored in one or more rows of compartments in a newspaper printing or bookbinding plant. Two adjoining rows are separated from each other by a track for one or more vehicles which are used to transport empty reels to one or more compartments wherein the sheets are convoluted onto the respective cores as well as to transport loaded reels to unoccupied compartments or to compartments which are adjacent to unwinding units. Conveyors in the form of cranes and/or chain or belt conveyors are used to transfer empty and loaded reels between the compartments of the rows and pairs of similar compartments on the vehicles. A vehicle which transports a loaded reel from the convoluting station to an empty compartment is used to transport an empty reel from such compartment to the compartment at the convoluting station so that the vehicle is put to use during each stage of its movement.

Abstract: A magazine for temporary storage of elastic supercalender rolls has a frame for a rotor which can be driven to rotate about a horizontal axis and has two axially spaced-apart sections each carrying a set of equidistant cradles for the end portions of rolls. Each cradle has a socket for the end portion of a roll, and the cradles are maintained in such orientation that the open sides of their sockets face upwardly while the rotor turns about the horizontal axis and the cradles orbit about such axis. A stationary inflatable tire is mounted in the frame to rotate the rolls about their respective axes while the rotor is caused to rotate about the horizontal axis.

Abstract: A readily portable and, optionally readily disassembled rack comprises longitudinal members on either side and transverse members between the longitudinal members. The transverse members are spaced apart so that cylindrical objects--e.g., reels for wire and cable, rolls of paper, coils of steel, drums, etc.--rest on two adjacent transverse members. Abstract: An electromechanical selection control is transmitting the rotation of an electric motor output shaft to a selectively controlled reciprocating motion for performing a desired action in one or more selected stations. A coupling mechanism in each station is electrically selectable and mechanically connectable to a power drive and resettable by the power drive within a control cycle. Among the numerous applications the reciprocating coupled motion is usable in vending machines for operating dispenser actuators requiring a reciprocating motion. The control circuitry has flexibility to suit different conditions and it is satisfying the vending machine control requirements where a simple series connected selection switch chain is connectable to a coin validating unit which in the most complex form includes a multiprice and changemaker control circuitry and more than one selectable dispenser groups each including a drive motor and more than one selectable dispensers. The compact coupling mechanism can be directly a part of a dispenser actuator or it is connectable to a dispenser actuator by a connecting linkage if the two are not in a close proximity. Novel front end dispensing mechanisms to act from a horizontal or inclined storage platform are provided for various product shapes including cylindrical containers, rectangular packages and bagged products.

Abstract: Disclosed is a walking-beam conveyer for transporting strip-metal coils or other heavy articles in a stepwise manner. The beam or sections of the beam are supported by rollers on respective support heads and are moved in the transpart direction by rack and pinion drives. Abstract: Intelligent storage trays each hold SMT (Surface Mount Technology) reels of varying width without the need for separating dividers between the reels. An arrangement of light pipes within the tray pivot so that either one or multiple light pipes are pushed back to a closed position when an SMT reel is placed in the tray. Sensors detect movement of the light pipes allowing software to automatically assign a single SMT reel storage location to all of the light pipes that were moved by the SMT reel placement. Beacons on the tray indicate actions needed to take place and compression contacts on the tray communicate with the storage system software when the tray is placed and removed from a holder, such as a cart. Spring pins lock the tray into place within the holder allowing for ease of placement and removal.
