摘要: System for the bio-treatment of organic waste by means of insect larvae comprising a tank provided with removable cover and means for ventilation and temperature control able to induce migration of the larvae outside the waste mass when in a desired larval development stadium, means for distributing in many times the various waste layers and for removing the same at the end of the treatment and means for distributing the larvae inside the tank and for collecting and storing the larvae at the end of the treatment. Method for the bio-treatment of organic waste by means of larval stadium insects provided with the step of placing a first waste layer inside a tank (1), placing insect larvae or eggs on said layer and adding other waste layers at prefixed and shorter time intervals than the larvae development time, inducing the spontaneous migration of the larvae towards suitable collecting areas by means of temperature and humidity control and removing the treated waste from the tank.

摘要: A soil-amendment product for preparing a damaged or degraded soil ecosystem to establish a self-sustaining floral/vegetative rhizosphere contains a mixture of composted organic biomass, fiber, charcoal, and small amounts of inoculants to promote the growth of beneficial microorganisms including mycorrhizal fungi and nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Embodiments also contain a water-holding agent such as a starch-based polymer that is effective to prevent water from flowing downhill or seeping away from the surface. Methods of application and other uses for the soil-amendment product are also described and claimed.

摘要: Slope surfaces of land can be eroded by rain and wind. It is necessary to vegetate a bared slope surface of land for the purpose of erosion control and environmental conservation. The present invention provides a vegetation base soil composition and a method of growing vegetation on a sloped surface for erosion control and vegetating on cut rock slope surface, such as weathered rock surface and barren soil surface. The vegetation base soil includes peat, bio-solids formed by the treatment of urban sewage, for example water treatment plant sediment, woodchip, bark, animal waste compost and clay or loam. The vegetation base soil with a microbes active material, a root activation fertilizer, an adhesive material and seeds are applied over a mesh that is secured over the sloped surface. Plants are grown in the layer of vegetation base soil.

摘要: A growing medium includes a bulking agent and an animal by-product, blended together and compressed at a volume-to-volume ratio ranging from about 7:1 to about 8:1, being substantially free of a water-soluble binder material. The bulking agent may also include organic and inorganic nutrients, beneficial for plant growth. Of particular interest is the incorporation of worm castings, a valuable form of organic nutrients.

摘要: A conditioned alum-type water treatment residual is disclosed. A process for the conditioning of alum-type water treatment residual is likewise disclosed. The process includes dewatering the alum-type water treatment residual and conditioning by at least one method selected from the group consisting of conditioning by aging and physically turning periodically. A blended topsoil comprises conditioned alum-type water treatment residual and at least one topsoil component. A process for producing a blended topsoil with alum-type water treatment residual is disclosed. The alum-type water treatment residual is dewatered, conditioned by aging or turning periodically, and blended with topsoil components to produce a blended topsoil. The blended topsoil contains up to 50% alum-type water treatment residual by volume and preferably contains up to 30% alum-type water treatment residual by volume. The percentage of alum-type water treatment residual is dependent upon concentrations of metallic elements such as aluminum, copper, lead, zinc, and manganese, and the pH level of alum-type water treatment residual and the blended topsoil. A process for utilizing alum-type water treatment residual is also disclosed.

摘要: A process for converting composted organic material produced by optimized composting procedures into pure organic fertilizer for agronomic and other uses, particularly the expanding organic food market. It is essential that only organic wastes that are compatible with being certified organic are used for the composting step. In the first step, the raw organic matter is processed into compost by optimized standard methods, and is screened to remove all particles approximately 1 cm in size or greater. This coarse material is recycled back into the composting process. In the second step, the material below 1 cm is further screened to separate out the compost fine particles of 1 mm or less. A major proportion of the particles should be below 150 microns. The particles between 1 mm and 1 cm are rejected, and may be used for other purposes. In the third step, the compost fine particles are pelleted at a pressure between 2,000 and 6,000 psi to form a pure organic fertilizer pellet of an appropriate density so that the nutrients will be released into a soil medium, or plant substrate, at a rate required for optimum plant growth. The compression process binds the fine particles together, and assists in the timed release of the nutrients from the pure organic fertilizer pellet. The pure organic fertilizer pellets can be applied to organic farm fields, market gardens, and the like, in the normal way.

摘要: A composition and process for identifying the origin or quality of loose, pourable materials by mixing the materials with one or more marking bodies which have a color, consistency or other visibly identifiable property different from the pourable materials. The marking bodies in the mixture do not impair the intended use of the pourable materials. The origin or quality of the pourable materials can be identified at a point in time distant from the forming of the mixture and even after manufacturing article with the mixture. The pourable materials can be peat, compost, humus, clay, lava, pumice-stone, sand, fertilizers, soil stabilizers, soil improving substances, recycled soil substances, soil drainage substances and soil fillers.
