Abstract:
A method for controlling a sliding door system determines the masses and the frictional forces of all movably interconnected parts of the sliding door system. The system has a door leaf which is moved in an opening learning travel and a closing learning travel and guided without drive over respective first and second test sections. First and second energy balances are determined from the detected speed and distance travelled data of the first and second test sections respectively. The energy balances equate the kinetic energy at the beginning of a test section with the kinetic energy at the end of the test section plus the frictional energy plus the potential energy of a closing weight connected to the door leaf. The potential energy is added with a positive sign for opening travel and a negative sign for closing travel. The dynamic mass and the mean frictional force of the sliding door system can then be determined from the first and second energy balances. An apparatus for controlling the door motor in accordance with the method includes a microprocessor in a door drive with a memory for storing the speeds and distances associated with the learning travels. The microprocessor and the tachometer detect, store and process the speed and distance data, and the microprocessor determines the values for the dynamic mass and the mean frictional force and also the closing speed, which is the maximum permissible for safe operation of the door.
Abstract:
A sliding gate control device consisting of an elongated rack member that is resiliently mounted across the lower extremities of a sliding gate that is movable by guide structure, and a control unit mounted adjacent to the guideway actuatable to provide a pinion gear drive for engagement with said rack member thereby to slidably move the gate laterally across the right of way. Adjustable tension assemblies provide the resilient rack mounting that assures a continual positive rack/pinion engagement for reliable operation.
Abstract:
A runner guide for an elevator door includes a ramp member at an end of travel position along a guide rail for engaging a roller attached to the door and running on the guide rail. The roller has a rim disc which engages a surface on the ramp member to move an insert in the roller out of engagement with the rail thereby relieving the load on and preventing flattening of the running surface on the insert when the door is at rest. The insert is formed of a non-metallic and hard elastic material to reduce running noise. The door is supported by a pair of such rollers, each having a pair of rim discs, and one roller is asymmetric with one of the rim discs being of a smaller diameter to move past the ramp member associated with the other roller without contact during opening and closing of the door.
Abstract:
A hanger wheel mount wherein the mounting pin includes an annular land for contacting only a portion of the wheels interior surface. The use of the annular land reduces the pull required to move a door suspended by a hanger bracket. The roller or wheel includes an inturned lip which contacts a portion of the pin adjacent the bracket to reduce wheel wobble.
Abstract:
An adjustable support bracket is disclosed, suitable for use with sliding doors to adjust the spacing between the door and the support roller. The bracket includes a frame having an elongate slot. An adjusting lever is pivotably connected to the frame and extends across the slot. The support roller is rotatably mounted to an axle which extends through both the slot and the lever so as to be movable by the lever along the slot. Securing devices are provided for selectively securing the lever in pre-selected locations with respect to the frame.
Abstract:
Concentric tubes, mounted for relative rotation about their common axis, each include radially extending hinge plates. The tubes carry contra-rotational cam slots through which project the ends of a cross-shaft. Bearings on the ends of the cross-shaft engage the milled cam slots. A cylindrical cross roller bearing block mounting the cross-shaft is axially, slidably positioned within the inner tube and is under a biasing force exerted by a compression spring abutting one end of the block. The cam profiles of the slots includes portions at the ends of the slots extending parallel to the rotational axis to lock the inner and outer tubes together at the beginning and end of the stroke with the cam profile controlling the hinge plate acceleration, deceleration, and velocity, in addition to ensuring positive locking of the hinge in plate open and closed position.
Abstract:
A track roller carriage assembly, a pair of joining plates joined face to face and each having a half-round deformation portion intermediate its ends, the two deformation portions defining a bolt aperture the upper edges of the joining plates being notched downwardly to provide receiving shoulders, and a suspension bolt having on it a head which contains slots which engage side faces of the joining plates adjacent the notches to thereby prevent rotation of the suspension bolt itself.
Abstract:
A self-closing door hinge for a curtain door mounted within a frame consisting of a channel having a double helical track and a roller on said helical track which is returned to a pre-selected position after movement in either direction by compression of a spring thereby moving an arm carrying a curtain door connected to said channel to a preselected position.
Abstract:
This invention relates to structural members for mounting and guiding sliding doors and includes an integral extrusion to avoid the high expenditure for mounting the entire structure. The integral extrusion profile is torsionally rigid, and has runner and guide rails arranged exactly vertically, one above the other, which are engaged by runner and guide rollers of the carriage of L-shaped cross-section supporting a door board.

A CONCEALED HINGE FOR A CONTAINER SUCH AS A BOX OR CASE, PARTICULARLY FOR A SMALL CASE SUCH AS THAT OF A CIGARETTE LIGHTER, THE HINGE HAVING TWO MAIN COMPONENT PARTS, ONE PROVIDED WITH ARCUATE GROOVES WHICH EACH COOPERATE WITH ROLLERS IN THE OTHER COMPONENT PART. A SPRING COUPLING MAY BE PROVIDED TO HOLD THE HINGE STABLE IN THE FULLY OPEN AND FULLY CLOSED POSITIONS.
