Abstract:
An articulated device includes a rivet assembly for connecting first and second linkage assembly support arms together at common ends thereof such that the arms are movable relative to one another. The rivet assembly includes a rivet having first and second rivet heads and a rivet shaft. The rivet shaft extends through first and second bearing holes in the common ends of the arms with the first rivet head being on the first arm and the second rivet head being on the second arm. The rivet assembly has a bearing sleeve extending between the rivet shaft and the bearing holes. The bearing sleeve has a collar-type stop and a shoulder-type stop adjacent the first rivet head with the collar-type stop lying against the first arm and the shoulder-type stop lying against the first rivet head. The bearing sleeve has a ring-shaped stop lying against the second rivet head.
Abstract:
A blind rivet assembly for securing workpieces having aligned bores with the workpieces having an open surface at an open side and a blind surface at a blind side, the blind rivet assembly including a tubular shell having an enlarged shell head adapted to be in engagement with the open surface of the workpieces, a stem having an elongated shank with a stem head at the far end of the shank and having gripping means at the opposite end adapted to be gripped by an installation tool for application of an axial pulling force, and a placement ring having an near end and a far end, and having a pre-installation orientation and a post-installation orientation, wherein in the pre-installation orientation the placement ring is disposed around a ring receiving portion of the elongated shank, and the post-installation orientation is created by axially pulling the stem towards the open side of the workpieces with an axial pulling force that forces the placement ring into a through bore which causes the shell to deform outwards and form a blind head, and wherein upon continued axial pulling of the stem, the stem progressively moves into the shell until the stem encounters a stop shoulder, whereupon material of the stop shoulder is moved into a locking portion to arrest further movement of the stem, and whereupon increased axial force on the stem shears a portion of the stem on the open side at a shearable break-groove.
Abstract:
A blind bolt fastener is provided having a body, a deformable sleeve and a core bolt in threaded engagement with the deformable sleeve. The deformable sleeve has a groove formed therein. Rotation of the core bolt bulbs the deformable sleeve and moves the deformable sleeve along the body. The groove receives a tapered nose of the body and aids in completing the bulbing of the deformable sleeve. An optional drive nut is provided for preventing rotation of the body during installation of the fastener.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a connecting element (7) and a joint for joining pieces of wood. The connecting element is adapted to be placed between two pieces of wood to be joined and comprises a body (8) with two opposite main surfaces and with engaging means (9) which protrude from each main surface. In addition, the joint comprises a connecting means (10) which is adapted to be passed through the pieces of wood and the connecting element (7) and apply a compressing force on the pieces of wood in such a manner that the engaging means (9) of the intermediate connecting element penetrate into opposite wood surfaces. The connecting element (7) comprises a through hole perpendicular to the main surface for passing through the shank-shaped connecting means (10). The hole exhibits engaging formations round its circumference, and the connecting means (10) exhibits matching engaging formations (15) on its shank part in such a manner that longitudinal displacement is allowed while rotary motion of the connecting means relative to the connecting element is prevented.
Abstract:
A male snap component is provided which is particularly useful for replacing an existing male snap component of a snap fastener which has been pulled free from a panel within which is was supported. The male snap component comprises a head, a shank extending from the head and an anchor threadably supported on the shank at a location spaced from the head. The anchor has a plurality of gripping fingers extending in a longitudinal direction of the shank from the anchor towards the head at an outward incline away from the shank in a relaxed position for engaging an opposite side of the panel as the head when inserted through a bore formed in the panel where the previous male snap component was located. The fingers flex inwardly to permit insertion of the anchor through the bore from an accessible side of the panel. Subsequent rotation of the shank clamps the panel between the head and anchor.
Abstract:
A peel type blind rivet (1) has a rivet body (2) composed of a cylindrical part (3) and a flange-shaped head (4) formed integral with one end of the part, and a mandrel (5) composed of a body (6) for insertion in the part and an enlarged head (7) formed at one end of the body. Radial blades (9) are formed integral with a lower surface (8) of the mandrel head such that the other open end (14) of part (3) will be cut into radially protruding split feet (14a) when the mandrel body (4) is pulled back. The mandrel head (7) is of a maximum diameter (D) greater than an outer diameter (d) of the cylindrical part (3). The lower surface (8) increases its diameter gradually and upwards from the mandrel body (6) towards a rim (7a) of the mandrel head having the maximum diameter. Each blade (9) is of a V shape protruding downwards from the lower surface such that a cutting edge (10) of each blade extends upwards and obliquely from the mandrel body towards the rim. A circumcircle of outer ends (10a) of the cutting edges is of a diameter (d1) equal to or slightly greater than the outer diameter (d), so that the blades can surely and uniformly sever the rivet body open end so as to provide a reliable strong fastening force.
Abstract:
A blind rivet (10) comprises a head (12), a shank (14) made at least partially of heat-softenable polymeric material, and force transmitting means (22, 24) operable to apply force to a portion (14a) of the shank (14) to cause it to deform to form a further head (30) opposed to the first-mentioned head (12). The rivet also comprises electrical heating means (26) arranged to be supplied with electrical current through the first-mentioned head (12) and operable to heat the deformable portion (14a) of the shank (14).
Abstract:
A fastener is provided. The fastener includes a housing with a housing opening and a collet body at least partially enclosed within the housing, the collet body includes a crown having a crown opening with a threaded section and a leg that extends from the crown and including a foot. The fastener further includes a screw with a head positioned in the housing opening, an upper threaded section, and a lower unthreaded section, where the housing opening and the crown include a set of splined protrusions and a set of splined recesses mated with one another, where the sets of splined protrusions and recesses include ramps and are designed to permit the collet body and the screw to transition into a free-spin configuration, and where a spring is designed to exert a return force on the collet body or the screw when the fastener is in the free-spin configuration.
