    摘要: A composite structure fabricated by thermoplastic welding, and a method for producing such structures. First and second composite parts are provided, having first and second surfaces, respectively, that define an interface where the parts are to be joined. The parts include a thermoplastic matrix. An insert is provided, which includes a film portion, which may include the same thermoplastic matrix. The insert is provided with an electric resistance heating element. The first and second parts are urged together using low fusion pressure while the insert is heated using the electric resistance heating element. After a selected period of time, the electrical supply to the resistance heating element is turned off. A high fusion pressure is then applied to urge the parts together. The weldment joint is allowed to cool. After cooling, excess material may be removed, to form a composite structure.

    摘要: A method for joining a first tubular member to a second tubular member. The method provides a stretchable and compressible welding ring having a flexible inner ring, a resistance coil wound around the inner ring and at least one layer of plastic coating the resistance coil. The method includes the step of arranging the first and second tubular members in overlapping relation with an end of the first tubular member inserted into an end of the second tubular member and with the welding ring encircling the first tubular member and compressed between the first and second tubular members. The method also includes the step of applying electric energy to the resistance coil to melt the at least one layer of plastic so that, upon cooling, the respective ends of the first and second tubular members are welded to the welding ring.

    摘要: A method of joining together by heat welding two tubular elements of a meltable thermoplastic material. The elements are arranged so that one tubular element receives one end of the other element in a telescoping manner to form an annular space between the two elements. A welding sleeve of a meltable thermoplastic material is positioned in the annular space between the two tubular elements. Heating elements are also arranged in the annular space for heating and welding the welding sleeve to the surfaces of the two tubular elements. Additionally, a ring-shaped body which becomes enlarged when heat is applied thereto is positioned in the annular space between the two tubular elements and the heating elements are arranged on the outer surface of the ring-shaped body. The two tubular elements and the welding sleeve are pressed together by the force exerted by the ring-shaped body whose material shape is changed from a state in which it is originally dimensionally stable in heat to a state in which it is dimensionally unstable in heat.
