    摘要: A bistable chiral tilted-homeotropic nematic liquid crystal (BCTHN) display can be switched between the tilted-homeotropic state (TH state) and the twisted state (T state) by using dual frequency liquid crystal material. These two states can be maintained without the application of any electric field. The bistable liquid crystal display does not need high voltage to induce the flow of liquid crystal or break the anchoring energy.

    摘要: A drive circuit of a liquid crystal display device includes a driver circuit that applies a voltage pulse to a liquid crystal of the liquid crystal display device, and a control circuit that controls the driver circuit to change the liquid crystal to a initial tone and to change the initial tone to a high tone, an intermediate tone, or a low tone. The control circuit sets a tone energy difference so as to be smaller at the intermediate tone than at the high tone close to the initial tone, the tone energy difference being a difference between an application energy of the voltage pulse applied to the liquid crystal of the initial tone to display a predetermined tone and an application energy of the voltage pulse applied to display a tone different from the predetermined tone.

    摘要: A drive scheme is described for a display capable of gray scale. Multiple two-level pulses are used in conjunction with dynamic relaxation techniques to write pixels ON or OFF and to adjust the gray level of pixels. Only two voltage levels are used, a maximum level U, and a minimum level 0. This reduces the complexity of the electronics so that the only one voltage generator is needed for the display.

The apparatus further includes an addressing structure having rows and columns of conductors arranged so that when a column and a row overlap, they define a selectable pixel or segment to be viewable or non-viewable, and a single drive chip responsive to a single input voltage for applying selected voltages to rows and columns of conductors, so that selectable unipolar fields are applied across the cholesteric liquid crystals of the pixels to selectively change the state of the cholesteric liquid crystal.
