摘要: An interactive music system in accordance with various aspects of the invention lets a user control the playback of recorded music according to gestures entered via an input device, such as a mouse. The system includes modules which interpret input gestures made on a computer input device and adjust the playback of audio data in accordance with input gesture data. Various methods for encoding sound information in an audio data produce with meta-data indicating how it can be varied during playback are also disclosed. More specifically, a gesture input system receives user input from a device, such as a mouse, and interprets this data as one of a number of predefined gestures which are assigned an emotional or interpretive meaning according to a nullcharacternull hierarchy or library of gesture descriptions. The received gesture inputs are used to alter the character of music which is being played in accordance with the meaning of the gesture. For example, an excited gesture can effect the playback in one way, while a quiet playback may affect it in another. The specific result is a combination of the gesture made by the user, its interpretation by the computer, and a determination of how the interpreted gesture should effect the playback. Entry of a excited gesture thus may brighten the playback, e.g., by changing increasing the tempo, changing from a minor to major key, varying the instruments used or the style in which they are played, etc. In addition, the effects can be cumulative, allowing a user to progressively alter the playback. To further enhance the interactive nature of the system, users can be given the ability to alter the effect of a given gesture or assign a gesture to specific places in the character hierarchy.

摘要: The invention is a method and apparatus for chording. One embodiment of an apparatus comprises a user-wearable support element, in the form of a glove having finger and thumb portions. An output generating element in the form of a switch is provided corresponding to each finger and thumb portion of the glove. An activator is provided for each finger and thumb portion of the glove. In one embodiment, each activator comprises a wire having one end connected to the glove and a second end arranged to activate the switch corresponding to its respective finger or thumb portion. Movement of each finger and thumb into one or more positions causes the respective activator to activate its respective switch. In one embodiment, the outputs generated by the switches are input to a signal controller. The signal controller is arranged to provide a second output dependent upon the inputs from the various switches. In one embodiment, the second output is determined from a map and comprises alphanumeric data.

摘要: A musical-tone-control apparatus having finger sensors that detect the bending of each finger and produce on/off signals in response to the bending. One group of outputs of the finger sensors is converted into keycodes that control tone pitches by the use of converting rules, and the other group of the outputs thereof is also used for changing the ranges of the tone pitches. Hence, musical tones controlled by finger motions of a performer are generated. Moreover, the converting rules can be altered by a modification-control means so that keycode-conversion rules can be varied. Thus, conversion rules appropriate for generating tones which occur frequently and are easy to produce for an individual, can be set for each musical piece. Furthermore, grouping the outputs of finger sensors makes it possible for a performer to achieve a variety of control of musical tones.

摘要: Various systems and methods for air gesture-based composition and instruction systems are described herein. A composition system for composing gesture-based performances may receive an indication of an air gesture performed by a user; reference a mapping of air gestures to air gesture notations to identify an air gesture notation corresponding to the air gesture; and store an indication of the air gesture notation in a memory of the computerized composition system. Another system used for instruction may present a plurality of air gesture notations in a musical arrangement; receive an indication of an air gesture performed by a user; reference a mapping of air gestures to air gesture notations to identify an air gesture notation corresponding to the air gesture; and guide the user through the musical arrangement by sequentially highlighting the air gesture notations in the musical arrangement based on the mapping of air gestures to air gesture notations.

摘要: An electronic image visualization system, such as a music stand system and display, management and communications methodologies relating thereto are presented. The electronic music stand system is comprised of a performer subsystem comprising a processing subsystem, librarian logic, performance logic, and communications management logic. The communications management logic provides management of communication via the communications interface with external apparatus responsive to the performance logic and the librarian logic. The user input apparatus and the display apparatus can be integrated into a touch-screen input display. The user input apparatus can alternatively be at least one of a touch-tablet, a stylus-based writing tablet, a mouse, a keyboard, a joystick, a game controller, and a switch. In a preferred embodiment, the librarian logic, the performance logic and the communications management logic are defined by program data stored in the data storage apparatus, and the processor is responsive to the program data for managing data formatting, displaying music, and management of communications of data with the external apparatus. In one embodiment, two Performer subsystems are operable alternatively as one of a single appliance as a linked set a linked mode and as two independent appliances a stand-alone mode, wherein in the linked mode each of the two Performer subsystems operate cooperatively with each other as a linked set to provide a two page display on the video presentation, and wherein in the stand alone mode each of the two Performer subsystems operates independently and mutually exclusive of the other to provide two independent and mutually exclusive single page displays on the video presentation. The present invention also relates to a method for providing for video display of music responsive to the music data stored in a music database. The method is comprised of defining a page of music image data from the music database; defining ordered logical sections; storing the mapping in a memory for selective retrieval; and providing for the video display of the music responsive to the mapping and the storing.
