Abstract:
A control device for a heating unit in an electric range in the form of a low-power resistor and switch in a tubular capsule recessed in a convenient position near the unit. The capsule has a presented wall which is flexible so that a portion of the resistor therein may be shorted out to change the resistance value simply by pressing at a desired point along the length of the capsule. The capsule is sealed and contains a fluid so that when the capsule is pressed at a second point, for example, at the end of the capsule, pressure is developed resulting in release at the first point. The resistor is controllingly included in the input of a solid-state circuit having the heating unit in the output.
Abstract:
A potentiometric sensor, comprising: a potentiometer track; a collector track opposite the potentiometer track; a conductive magnetic cushion slider coupled to the potentiometer track and the collector track; and a sealed body housing the potentiometer track, the collector track, and the conductive magnetic cushion is disclosed. The potentiometric sensor may provide a variable output voltage indicative of a level of liquid in a container. The output voltage of the potentiometric sensor may be based on a position of a magnet, which may determine a position of the conductive magnetic cushion or a ferromagnetic spring. The magnet may be outside of the sealed body. As the sensor will be more cost effective and less space consuming, the totally sealed sensor incorporating the conductive magnetic cushion or a ferromagnetic spring may replace many applications that allow a hysteresis of less than 1 mm. Additionally, these applications may be used on rotary systems.
Abstract:
A variable potentiometer with a wiper terminal and first and second terminals has relay switches for shorting or for unshorting resistors. When resistance is reduced between the wiper and one of said terminals, resistance is increased between the wiper and another terminal. In one embodiment two strings of resistors with the same nominal values are used between the wiper and the terminals. In another embodiment, a single string of resistors are used and are switched into either the electrical connection between the wiper and the first terminal or between the wiper and the second terminal. When resistance is lowered between the wiper and one of said first or second terminals a first resistor is replaced with a first short circuit and when resistance is increased between said wiper and another of said first and second terminals a second short circuit is replaced with the first resistor.
Abstract:
A ceramic resistor card assembly for a fuel sensor includes a card portion made of a ceramic material. The ceramic resistor card assembly also includes a first conductive ink disposed on the card portion to form a fuel level portion. The ceramic resistor card assembly further includes a second conductive ink disposed on the card portion to form at least one contact for the fuel level portion. The first conductive ink is void of Silver and the second conductive ink contains Silver.
Abstract:
A variable resistor useful for automotive type fuel senders has a cermet film fired upon a refractory substrate. The cermet film is burnished to reduce asperity of the fired film. The resulting resistor element works with existing mechanical float type senders to provide a reliable and long lasting sender.
Abstract:
The apparatus serves for rapid orientation of a periscope and, if desired, a weapon barrel with respect to a sighted target. A contact potentiometer is proved as angle transmitter for an electric servo control. The contact potentiometer is annularly arranged around the observer's post at the vehicle, preferably in the region of the rim portion of the observation hatch of the vehicle. The contact potentiometer comprises an arcuate, hose-like insulating envelope defining a radial direction. A resistance track and a contact track are laid within the insulating envelope at a predeterminate spacing therebetween in the radial direction of the insulating envelope. By touching the contact potentiometer in the direction of sight, there is tapped thereat a resistance value corresponding to the direction with which the periscope or, if desired, the weapon barrel has to be aligned by a swivelling motion.
