摘要： A wireless communications headset system for double hearing protection systems that eliminates the problems associated with typical wireless communications systems. The system employs a magnetic-field coupled wireless link from a loop transmitter to a magnetic field receiver. Current through the transmitter wire loops generates magnetic flux which passes through a communications earplug. The earplug has a receiver for converting the magnetic flux to electrical voltage, and this voltage is used to drive a speaker within the earplug. The transmitter can be easily installed into aviation headsets. The loop transmitter has an open center sized so that it fits around the pinna of the human ear enabling a close position to the communications earplug. This close position is advantageous if an efficient system is desired.

摘要： A method is provided of using a telephone device to view full content on a nearby display screen which is not physically connected to the telephone device. The telephone device includes a display screen, a button which facilitates communication of the full content between the telephone device and a local control device connected to the nearby display screen, and a wireless transmitter. The full content is stored in the telephone device. Only a portion of the full content is displayed on the display screen of the telephone device. The full content is communicated from the telephone device to the local control device via a signal sent by the wireless transmitter upon selection of the button. The local control device receives the signal and provides the full content to the nearby display screen for display thereon.

The portable device includes a memory that stores the content, or a portion thereof, and an electronic address of the content; a display screen which displays the content, or a portion thereof; a button which facilitates communication of the content between the portable device and a local control device connected to the nearby display screen; and a wireless transmitter that communicates the electronic address of the content from the portable device to the local control device via a signal sent by the wireless transmitter upon selection of the button. The local control device retrieves the content from a remote location and provides the content to the nearby display screen for display thereon.

When a phone mounted within the apparatus receives a call, the vibration of that cellular phone will activate the apparatus, causing the apparatus to make a ringing sound and alert an individual of the incoming call.

摘要： A communications system (30) enables two communications devices (10, 12) to communicate with each other over an extended distance using a limited range communication protocol, such as the IrDA or Bluetooth protocol. The communications system includes a pair of repeaters (32, 34), each having a protocol stack (38) that includes a portion of the limited range communications protocol. The repeaters communicate with each other over an extended range communications channel (36) such as the PSTN, while each communications device utilizes its native, limited range communications technique to communicate with an associated repeater. Thus, each communications device can readily communicate with another like device using its native protocol over a distance otherwise beyond the range of that technique.

摘要： A secure communication channel is established between a portable computing device and a fixed public network outlet. Infrared beaming is employed wherein the IR beam is confined to an optical fiber placed between the IR beaming ports of the portable device and the fixed outlet. A portable computing device such as a PDA or a laptop PC has an infrared beaming port capable of bidirectional serial communication. A fiber optic system includes an optical fiber, a retractable spool for retaining the optical fiber, a fiber mount for mounting a first end of the optical fiber in alignment with the infrared beaming port of the portable computing device, and a terminator at a second end of the optical fiber. A public network outlet is provided in a fixed location and has an infrared data port in communication with an optical fiber connector adapted to receive the terminator. The infrared data port is in bidirectional serial communication with the infrared beaming port in order to authenticate the portable computing device and to provide public network services in response to the authentication.
