    摘要: A cabled conductor comprises a plurality of transposed strands each comprising one or more preferably twisted filaments preferably surrounded or supported by a matrix material and comprising textured anisotropic superconducting compounds which have crystallographic grain alignment that is substantially unidirectional and independent of the rotational orientation of the strands and filaments in the cabled conductor. The cabled conductor is made by forming a plurality of suitable composite strands, forming a cabled intermediate from the strands by transposing them about the longitudinal axis of the conductor at a preselected strand lay pitch, and, texturing the strands in one or more steps including at least one step involving application of a texturing process with a primary component directed orthogonal to the widest longitudinal cross-section of the cabled intermediate, at least one such orthogonal texturing step occurring subsequent to said strand transposition step. In a preferred embodiment, the filament cross-section, filament twist pitch, and strand lay pitch are cooperatively selected to provide a filament transposition area which is always at least ten times the preferred direction area of a typical grain of the desired anisotropic superconducting compound. For materials requiring biaxial texture, the texturing step preferably includes application of a texturing process with a second primary component in a predetermined direction in the plane of the widest longitudinal cross-section of the conductor.

    摘要: A conductor splice and splice support structure and method of assembly for use with cable-in-conduit superconductor cable of the type having a plurality of spaced sub-cables each including stabilizer and superconductor strands in an annular tube. Two transition ramp members, each having a cross section varying from a first end conforming to the cable configuration to a second end having an enlarged, oval, configuration have a plurality of surface grooves each sized to hold one sub-cable. Between the two transition ramp members is provided a main support member having grooves aligned with the transition members grooves. The main support member grooves are sized to hold two overlapping sub-cables. Preferably, a braid of superconductor material is placed around the overlapping sub-cable ends. The space within the grooves surrounding the sub-cables is preferably filled with solder. A housing is preferably formed around the splice, with a connection through which a coolant, such as liquid helium, can be admitted to the splice and cables.

    摘要: A method of winding and mounting superconductive coils on a cylindrical surface of the coil-carrying shaft of a rotor of a rotary electric machine. A superconductive wire is wound around the circumferential surface of a rectangular bobbin, thereby forming coils. The four straight portions of the circumferential surface are connected with each other by circularly curved surface portions. The portions of the circumferential surfaces corresponding to the axial direction of the coil-carrying shaft have a plurality of steps formed in the direction perpendicular to the axial direction of the coil-carrying shaft. A detachable side plate on the bobbin is then taken off, and the coil is removed from the bobbin. The coils thus formed are mounted on the surface of the coil-carrying shaft, in which a plurality of axially running grooves and a pair of annular recesses running in the circumferential direction of the coil-carrying shaft and connecting the ends of the grooves, the grooves and recesses being pre-formed corresponding to the coils for receiving them therein. A pair of sleeves are fitted over the recesses, thereby securely holding the end portions of the coils in the recesses.

    摘要: A method for establishing an electrical contact between a normally conducting contact body and the end section of a superconductor annealed in situ, prior to the anneal in which the corresponding end section of the intermediate conductor product is placed on a form of a heat-resistant material which during the anneal does not react with the elements of the intermediate conductor product; and after the anneal, replacing the form with a contact body of corresponding shape. With the method, diffusion reactions between the elements of the intermediate conductor product and the contact body during the in situ anneal are advantageously prevented.
