    摘要: A rock drilling rod is manufactured by placing free ends of first and second hollow rod components in abutment, and establishing relative rotation between the free ends to friction weld those free ends together. The first component comprises a thread and a clearance portion disposed adjacent the thread. The first component has a hot hardness value of at least about 170 HV1 at 600.degree. C. Prior to friction welding the components together, the thread, clearance portion and central passage of the first component are nitrocarburized against corrosion fatigue. Following the nitrocarburizing, the core hardness is at least 440 HV1. Following the welding, the weld is cooled while keeping a core hardness of the respective portions of the first and second components disposed immediately adjacent the weld no lower than 390 HV1.

    摘要: A down reaming apparatus has an upper stabilizer which supports the down reaming apparatus in the bored hole. A plurality of shoe assemblies are radially attached to the hub of the upper stabilizer. The shoe assemblies are biased against a bored shaft wall by pressurized cylinders which allow limited return movement with resistance of the shoe assemblies. A weight assembly comprising a plurality of stacked plates is secured to the frame of the down reaming apparatus and has manways therethrough which allow passage of workers. A lower stabilizer provides additional support for the down reaming apparatus. The lower stabilizer also includes shoe assemblies that are biased against the bored shaft wall by a pressurized cylinder.

    摘要: In order to achieve improved flow properties for a flushing medium charged with rock particles freed during the drilling phase, an injection drilling anchor is provided with anchor rods, coupling members, injection valves, an intermediate member containing a non-return valve, as well as drill head, which are designed such that these components are connected one to the other below one another always by screw fittings, so that in the assembled state one has a fully homogeneous structure from the drill head upwards. The drill head has an external thread extending uniformly over the full length and consequently has a uniform diameter, so that after drilling has taken place, starting from the mouth of the borehole, a spacer can be pushed within the borehole along the full length of the borehole over the anchor rods to any desired point. The anchor rods are provided over their full length with a uniform internal threading, sot hat a cutting to a particular length does not hinder their utility for use in the framework of the injection drilling anchor. The coupling members, the injection valves, intermediate member and the drill head for this purpose comprise tubular cylinders which correspond in terms of their internal and eternal threading with the anchor rods and which each have a stop function for the positional screwing together of the parts.

    摘要: A threaded connection with improved fatigue-life useful for connecting adjacent sections of a pipe string subject to bending, tensile, and compressive stresses such as a drill collar string is disclosed. The connection comprises a pin member which is threadedly engageable with a corresponding box member. In the preferred embodiment, the inventive connection is designed to have bending strength ratio ("BSR") of about 3.20 or greater, and more preferably, in a range between about 3.20 and about 4.00. The preferred thread form of the connection is a V-type thread form having two flank angles of 30 degrees and a 0.038 inch root radius. Other design features may be used in combination with the threaded connection to further improve the connection's fatigue-life. Such design features include a tapered pin bore, an increased root radius for selected box threads, an internal box stress relief groove, a box bore stress relief groove, an extended pin relief groove, and modification of the API boreback box design to provide an increased number of threads having full threaded engagement.

    摘要: A down remaining apparatus has an upper stabilizer which supports the down reaming apparatus in the bored hole. A plurality of wheel assemblies are radially attached to the hub of the upper stabilizer. Each of the wheel assemblies has rotatable tires oriented against the bored hole wall, and a rotatable overload wheel which contacts the tunnel wall upon compression of the tires. A weight assembly comprising a plurality of stacked plates is secured to the frame of the down reaming apparatus and has manways therethrough which allow passage of workers. A lower stabilizer provides additional support for the down reaming apparatus. A plurality of wheel assemblies are radially attached to the hub of the lower stabilizer. Each of the wheel assemblies has a rotatable wheel pivotally attached to the lower stabilizer hub and spaced therefrom by a compressible bumper which reacts against the bored hole wall to stabilize the down reaming apparatus.

    摘要: Improved drill collars and their manufacture include the assembly of a body member formed of an appropriate high strength material, and a liner within the body. The body member will provide the majority of the strength and weight required of the drill collar, while the liner will be constructed of a material offering improved resistance to corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. The liner may be formed of a metal alloy, and may be retained within the body member by deforming the liner radially outwardly to establish an interference fit with the interior bore of the body member. A sealant may also be placed with the collar between the liner and the body member to seal any space between the two members.
