    摘要: A reciprocating piston engine having a sealing system between the cylinder head and the cylinder liner, or the cylinder block, using a metal gasket. It is proposed to improve such a system in a manner that, while large manufacturing tolerances are permitted, i.e. tolerances on the dimensional design of the cooperating parts as well as on the cylinder head bolt torque, reliable gastight sealing of the combustion chamber is ensured at all times. This is essentially achieved in that a circumferential raised portion on the liner flange is the only part that projects beyond the top end (sealing face) of the cylinder block and is matched to the metal gasket in a manner that when the cylinder head is tightened down on the cylinder block, the cylinder head gasket is always stressed above the yield point, with the metal gasket having such a stress/strain characteristic that once the yield point is exceeded, the horizontal deformation range (i.e. where the compressive stress is constant) is as great as possible.

    摘要: The design and construction of present midsupported liner and multipiece block engines has caused increased manufacturing cost and reduced engine reliability. The present invention overcomes these engine construction problems by using an engine structure comprises the bottom block portion, cylinder head, top block portion positioned between the bottom block portion and the cylinder head and midsupported cylinder liner. The cylinder liner and the top block portion form an annular space therebetween for cooling the combustion area. The top block portion is structurally designed to have a simple profile which is easy to cast, core and machine thereby reducing overall costs. The predetermined height of the top block portion "H.sub.1 " and the predetermined height of the annular space "H.sub.2 " combined with the ability to vary both or either further simplifies the manufacturing of a variety of engines having a variety of output horsepower and yet retain a high efficiency level. The top block portion concept eliminates bottom bores and reduces high stresses in the components within the engine thereby increasing life and reducing down time.

    摘要: A sealing system is intended for wet cylinder liners and having a flange seat on the crankcase of internal combustion engines. Sealing rings are respectively provided in the recess and in an annular groove arranged in the area of the upper guiding portion of the liner. The annular groove should not reduce the length of the guiding portion by more than 40%. In this manner, salt crystals forming as cooling water evaporates are prevented from penetrating up to the top sealing ring, so that this ring will not be corroded, and its sealing action is maintained.

    摘要: A preformed cylinder liner for an internal combustion engine comprises a cylindrical sleeve including a sidewall defining a bore having oppositely spaced ends, the sidewall having therein a port. An exhaust passage integral with the sleeve communicates with the bore through the port. The exhaust passage includes an end portion extending outwardly of the sleeve sidewall and axially toward one of the bore ends. A cylinder block fabricated separately from the pre-formed cylinder liner has therein an interior chamber having a liner-receiving portion which accommodates the removable placement of the cylinder liner substantially wholly within the confines of the liner-receiving portion of the interior chamber, with the bore of the liner sealed from communication with the liner-receiving portion of the interior block chamber. The liner-receiving portion of the interior chamber is adapted to be connected to a source of liquid coolant. Direct cooling of the entire cylinder liner can be thereby provided. A cylinder head is fabricated separately from the block and the cylinder liner. The cylinder head has therein an exhaust passage communicating with the atmosphere. The cylinder head is mounted on the cylinder block with the cylinder head exhaust passage communicating with the exhaust passage of the cylinder liner.

The liner has internal cooling ducts which are formed by blind holes in the neck of the liner which communicate with entry and exit passages for liquid coolant at parts of the liner within the cylinder block, leaving the exposed neck portion free of through holes where high strength is required.
