摘要: Methods and systems for cooling a radial engine in a ground-based portable electric power generating system. The engine includes a plurality of cylinders extending radially from a central hub supporting a crankshaft. Each cylinder has a coolant inlet port and a coolant outlet port. The cooling system includes an inlet coolant manifold interconnecting at least two of the coolant inlet ports. The inlet coolant manifold is disposed external to the central hub.

摘要: An improved cooling fluid passage configuration provides for uniformity of cooling about the entire periphery of a cylinder liner of an internal combustion engine in addition to improved cooling by increasing the flow in an upper water jacket of a split water jacket design. The cooling fluid passage configuration also provides a reduced pressure drop between a cylinder liner cooling fluid inlet and a cylinder head cooling fluid outlet when compared to conventional designs with a single head feed line, permitting use of a smaller cooling fluid pump and leading to increased efficiency of the engine.

摘要: The disclosed multi-cylinder, poppet-valved engine, has replacement cylinder sleeves larger than the original sleeves, and laterally supported near their upper ends by an aluminum alloy plate having a continuous flange or boss projecting into the cylinder block. The flange has an inner perimeter surface having a profile fittingly engaging upper exterior cylindrical surfaces of the sleeves providing lateral support to the sleeves and heat transfer from the sleeves to coolant and to the block. The flange further provides a coolant groove that circulates coolant around the perimeter of the cylinder sleeves to further the heat transfer from the sleeves to the coolant and to the block. The plate is sealed to the block and head with a spacing and gasketing to accommodate thermal expansion while avoiding combustion gas leakage at the cylinder sleeve tops.

摘要: A thermally conductive sealing system for the cylinder head joint of an internal combustion engine is disclosed comprising a spacer plate clamped in direct contact between the cylinder head and the cylinder block and a plurality of discrete fluid gaskets disposed across the spacer plate and clamped between the cylinder head and cylinder block. The flange of a cylinder liner is received in a bore of the spacer plate and a combustion gas seal or "fire ring" is clamped in the bore between the cylinder head and the cylinder liner flange. The combustion gas seal includes a malleable sealing ring for sealing between the cylinder head and the cylinder liner and a hardened backing ring for supporting the sealing ring. The plurality of discrete fluid gaskets includes a removable lifter compartment gasket including sealing elements attached across a substrate and a plurality of coolant ferrules for sealing across coolant ports and around cylinder head bolts.

摘要: A water jacket spacer is inserted into a water jacket. The water jacket spacer includes an expansion member, a plate-shaped holder to which the expansion member is fixed, and a leaf spring that abuts the inner wall of the water jacket. The leaf spring projects from a face on the holder on the side opposite of the expansion member. The holder curves to match the shape of the water jacket. The position of the water jacket spacer in the water jacket is maintained by the biasing force of the leaf spring.
