摘要: A separation plate (10) includes a first surface and an opposing second surface. Plural pairs of a nozzle (14) and a virtual impactor (16) are provided on the first surface. Each nozzle tapers from an inlet end (14a) to an outlet end (14b). Each virtual impactor comprises a pair of generally fin-shaped projections (24). Each fin-shaped projection includes an inner wall (26) and a convex outer wall (28). The inner walls of the fin-shaped projections of a virtual impactor face each other to define a minor flow passage (30) therebetween. The convex outer walls of the fin-shaped projections of a virtual impactor cooperatively present a convex surface including a virtual impact void therethrough. The virtual impact void defines an inlet end of the minor flow passage. A virtual impactor body (33) is provided between adjacent virtual impactors (16). When a particle-laden fluid stream (23) is caused to flow through the nozzles and advance to the virtual impactors, a major portion of the fluid containing a minor portion of particles flows around the virtual impactors, is blocked by the virtual impactor bodies, and redirected from the first surface through a suitable major flow outlet. A minor portion of the fluid containing a major portion of particles enters the virtual impact voids, advances through the minor flow passages, and exits therefrom, where it can be collected, analyzed, or processed further in any other manner.

摘要: A device which permits the conveyance of a dry fluid substance from one receptacle to another without the release of a significant amount of dust into the surrounding atmosphere is provided. The device is a housing with an interior volume divided into two sections and having an access opening and a discharge opening. A dry fluid substance is introduced into the device and into an inner chamber within the interior volume of the device which guides the substance from the access opening to the discharge opening and causes the separation of particulate matter from the substance. The particulate matter dispersed from the substance is drawn by a vacuum applied to the housing from the inner chamber into the filter chamber where the particulate matter is retained on a plurality of fine filter bag assemblies. At predetermined intervals, the vacuum applied to the device is shut off which causes the retained particulate matter to fall from the filter bags downwardly in the filter chamber through a pathway and discharged into the center of the stream of substance being discharged through the discharge opening. Thus, the particulate matter is reintroduced into the stream of substance at the point of discharge, but is delivered within the stream of substance which limits the creation of dust at the discharge point. In a preferred embodiment, the clean air chamber and filter chamber of the device are divided into quadrants and each quadrant is connected by a hose to the source of the vacuum. A valve positioned between the hose and the source of the vacuum permits the sequential closure of one section of the device while leaving the remaining sections open. This permits the particulate matter to be released from an individual section or sections of the device during the loading process. This can be regulated by conventional devices.

摘要: A personal dust spectrometer for aerodynamically classifying and collecting sub-fractions of inspirable dust, has an entry which has an entry efficiency approximating that of the human head during inhalation, and a cascade impactor comprising a stack of stages each having a flat element and a peripheral wall and gas exit holes. A connector enables a gas sampling pump to be attached to draw air through the entry and through the cascade impactor. A filter is desirably used to collect the smallest dust particles. All the dust entering the device is collected and is measurable.

摘要: A portable aerosol dust spectrometer has an inlet section with a sampler entry having an entry efficiency for airborne dust approximately to that of the human head during inhalation, a clean-up stage to remove particles above 15 .mu.m and a main collection stage which is a cascade impactor. The cascade impactor classifies particles of dust and collects fractions onto a number of collection surfaces. A pump draws air or gas through the apparatus. The apparatus samples air in a similar way to the human body and yields fractions of dust for further study.

摘要: An apparatus for separating debris from spent abrasive in an abrasive blasting apparatus in which the debris and spent abrasive are recirculated from a blast zone at high velocity along a recirculating chamber includes means for receiving debris and spent abrasive from the recirculating chamber and allowing a quantity of the debris and spent abrasive to collect thereby forming a pile of debris and spent abrasive with a face of the pile exposed to incoming debris and spent abrasive. The pile has an angle of repose whereby additional incoming debris and spent abrasive fall down the face to form a substantially unobstructed, vertical, uniform curtain of falling debris and spent abrasive. The apparatus includes means for providing a stream of fluid through the recirculating chamber, and means disposed below the receiving means for drawing off the stream of fluid from the recirculating chamber. The falling curtain of debris and spent abrasive is washed by the stream of fluid as it passes from the recirculating chamber to the drawing means to entrain the debris from the falling curtain in the stream of fluid.

摘要: An apparatus for separating fine dust particles from coarse dust particles, such as are present in hot filling powders for pit furnaces for the production of electrodes by aluminium fusion electrolysis, comprises a first separator with an adjustable separation gap, arranged inside a bin on an intermediate bottom, which is preferably slanted, dividing the bin into an upper chamber and a lower chamber. The air flow is sustained by a fan connected with its discharge side to the lower chamber. The suction side of the fan is connected to the upper chamber through a further separator for the fine particles and through respective pipes. Preferably the suction return path through the pipes and the further separator leads through a further collector.

摘要: In a vertical classifier, a high efficiency of separation is achieved by recirculating a portion of the main fluid stream within the classifier so as to create a horizontal vortex whereby larger particles are prevented from passing with the fine fraction; incoming fluid serves to carry fines from such recirculated portion of the fluid stream.
