To prevent an undesired or unauthorized adjustment of a motor vehicle part, a brake device is provided. The brake device has a mechanical, one-way brake element with which the worm shaft may be coupled by an axial displacement. In order to reduce the effect of the brake device on the worm shaft when the window pane is adjusted by the electric motor, the brake element is the rotatable part of a rotation limiting device and, in the axial direction, it is supported on a stop.

The drive shaft of a motor can be coupled to an output shaft by an electromagnetically activated friction clutch. The output shaft can be braked by an electromagnetically activated friction brake. The motor drive shaft rotates at constant speed. The rotary speed of the output shaft is regulated by negative-feedback action to maintain a selected value, by activating the clutch and brake alternately as necessary. The activating signals for the clutch and brake are pulse-width-modulated activating signals. The output shaft can be stopped in at least one predetermined angular position when commanded to do so. The movable parts of the brake and clutch are of minimal mass, and the speed-regulating system includes a speed feedback transducer system of very high resolution.

A main clutch engages a flywheel on a motor to drive an output shaft at a high speed. To decelerate the shaft, the main clutch disengages from the flywheel while simultaneously an electromagnet is energized to engage an auxiliary clutch with a flywheel. That clutch drives the main clutch through a brake disc with slip permitted between the main clutch and disc. When the electromagnet is deenergized the auxiliary clutch disengages from the flywheel and engages a brake shoe resulting in its stoppage.
