Abstract:
A method of filtering in sub-bands that eliminates or greatly restricts aliasing effects is disclosed. First, a source digital signal is transformed into at least two distinct frequency sub-bands. Next, each of the frequency sub-bands is filter processed. The filter processing includes the steps of defining an overall filtering profile, determining a set of partial filtering profiles each associated with one of the sub-bands, and filtering each of the sub-bands according to the associated partial filtering profile. Finally, the filtered sub-bands are reverse transformed to deliver a reconstructed filtered signal. The determined partial filtering profiles are applied so that the reconstructed filtered signal corresponds substantially to a forward filtering of the source digital signal according to the overall filtering profile. In particular, the partial filtering profiles are applied such that the aliasing terms still present after filtering are substantially compensated for.

An antenna comprises a quarter-wavelength skirt antenna adapted to be disposed over an artificial ground and comprising a vertical cylindrical tube closed at the upper end and a coaxial feed inside the tube. The radiation pattern of the skirt antenna is essentially omnidirectional with a low elevation angle. The skirt antenna is combined with a helical antenna disposed vertically above the skirt antenna and coaxially therewith. The surface closing the upper part of the tube of the skirt antenna constitutes a reflective plane for the helical antenna favoring a hybrid radiation mode specific to the latter, partially axial and partially radial, by lowering the receive lobe of the radiation pattern towards an elevation angle suitable for receiving signals transmitted via satellite. A coupling device combines the signals received by each of the two antennas and feeds them to a common coaxial line.

A device for the filtering of electromagnetic waves propagating in a main rotational symmetrical waveguide element comprising at least one filtering section constituted of a rectangular waveguide section inserted in being spliced into the main waveguide element, each transition between said main waveguide element and each of said filtering sections being made by metal walls which are substantially perpendicular to said axis of symmetry, the number and the geometrical and dimensional characteristics of the filtering sections being chosen so as to constitute a filter with a pre-determined filtering profile. The device can be applied especially in dual band filtering, for example for the making of dual band or bi-polarization duplexers.

A method and apparatus for the coherent demodulation of a digital signal constituted by digital elements distributed in the time-frequency space and transmitted in the form of symbols constituted by a multiplex of N orthogonal carrier frequencies modulated by a set of said digital elements and broadcast simultaneously, the digital signal also including reference elements having a known value position in said time frequency space. The method includes a Fourier transform of at least samples of said digital signal containing said reference elements from a frequency domain into a temporal domain, a weighting of the transformed samples in the temporal domain by a rectangular temporal window f.sub.n, a thresholding of the transformed samples in the temporal domain to eliminate any samples below a predetermined threshold, and a reverse Fourier transform of the samples remaining after said weighting and thresholding from the temporal domain into the frequency domain for projection onto said digital signal. The threshold level can be fixed or varied based on the power level of the noise affecting the transmission channel or an estimated pulse response of the transmission channel.

This color display structure for color display purposes has a first and second spaced, transparent substrates, between which is interposed a liquid crystal film (6), the first substrate (2) essentially supporting color filters (124) resistant to high temperatures and separated by black matrixes (126), a first transparent, passivating layer (128) deposited on the entire surface occupied by the filters and the black matrixes, thin film transistors (8, 9), formed on the first passivating layer facing the black matrixes so as to be protected from the ambient light, first transparent capacitor plates (10) formed on the first passivating layer facing the color filters and connected to the transistors, electrode rows (14) and columns (12) for controlling these transistors and a second transparent passivating layer (20) covering the transistors, the first plates, the rows and the columns, the second substrate (4) essentially having the second transparent capacitor plate.

The present invention concerns a method for processing an etched surface of a semiconductive or semi-insulating substrate. It further concerns integrated circuits manufactured by this method and an anodic oxidation apparatus for implementing the method. The invention is particularly applicable to the manufacture of integrated circuits with ultrafine details (below 1.mu.) and in particular to manufacturing electro-optical devices. Anodic oxidation with controlled voltage and current is used to peel a constant thickness of oxidation off a surface of the substrate so as to improve the subsequent epitaxial growth.

Disclosed is a novel two-way duplexer structure for the simultaneous transmission and reception of circularly polarized microwaves. This two-way duplexer of the type designed to connect a first set of two inputs/outputs to a second opposite set of two inputs/outputs, each input/output of said duplexer being connected to the combination channel of a combiner/divider, the two division channels of each combiner/divider each providing for the connection with one of the division channels of one of the combiners/dividers connected to a distinct input/output of the opposite set of inputs/outputs, through distinct phase-shifting means.
