Abstract:
A modular conveyor particularly adapted for food processing installations including a plurality of pedestals arranged along a single line and removably connected to a plurality of aligned beams and laterally-spaced side rails to support a plurality of belt-supporting rollers. The conveyor can be adjusted to a cleaning position where the conveyor belt is opened for interior cleaning while still permitting the belt to be driven by its usual driving mechanism.
Abstract:
A sorting switch comprises a plurality of channel-shaped pallet support members mounted on drive chains for movement around a course including an upper article sorting portion and a lower return portion. The upper article sorting portion of the course includes parallel article conveying paths, and the pallet support members extend across both article conveying paths. A pallet is slidably supported on each pallet support member and has a switch engaging member depending therefrom. The pallets are arranged in sets, with alternate sets of pallets being normally aligned with opposite article conveying paths. Switching mechanisms are provided for selectively allowing each set of pallets to remain aligned with the article conveying path normal thereto or for diverting the pallets comprising the sets into alignment with the opposite article conveying path. Each switching mechanism includes a stationary input channel for receiving the switch engaging members of the pallets normally aligned with a particular path, a switching channel supported for pivotal movement to receive the switch engaging members from the input channel and to selectively direct the switch engaging members and the pallets connected thereto either to the normal article conveying path or to the opposite article conveying path, and camming structure for receiving the switch engaging members from the switching channel and for either directing the channel members and the pallets connected thereto along the normal article conveying path or for diverting the switch engaging members and the pallets connected thereto into alignment with the opposite article conveying path. Camming structure is also provided on the return portion of the course for returning all of the pallets to their normal orientation with respect to the course.
Abstract:
In fabricating sealed contacts, often their axially extending leads are solder coated to protect them from contamination and to enhance their solderability into circuits. An apparatus for solder coating the leads, which minimizes their bending, includes a conveying apparatus that moves the contacts through various stages of the solder coating apparatus to form layers of solder on the leads. These layers, which are carefully controlled, are no greater than a certain maximum thickness, and are thinner on the ends of the leads than on the side surfaces thereof. To coat the leads, the contacts are individually mounted in a plurality of holders, each of which is fixed to an individual bead of an endless bead chain of the conveying apparatus. As the chain is advanced through a passageway of a tube having various curvilinear and rectilinear slots formed in the outer surface thereof, the holders extending through these slots are oriented in various longitudinal positions along the tube and angular positions about the chain to appropriately orient the leads through the stages of the solder coating apparatus. In a first stage, the contacts are loaded into the holders from a bin and moved in a predetermined orientation to a second stage where a mixture of powdered solder and flux is applied to each lead by coating wheels having resilient peripheral surfaces. The leads are moved into simultaneous contact with these surfaces to coat the side surfaces and ends of the lead with the mixture.Next, the leads are moved in the same orientation by the chain through a heating apparatus having a baffle arrangement to substantially confine hot gases to the vicinity of the leads to melt the solder of the mixture. The chain then moves the solder coated leads longitudinally along the tube and rotatably about the chain due to the camming action of the slots on the holders. This changes the angular orientation of the leads and immerses the contacts and leads in a cleaning bath to remove any residual flux from the leads. The contacts are next rotatably and longitudinally moved out of the cleaning bath and into a rinsing bath. Finally, the contacts are moved through a drying chamber to remove any remnants of the rinsing bath and are stripped from the holders into a bin.
Abstract:
A stable moving platform from which articles may be measured while in motion on this platform. An endless, moving silent chain type conveyor is modified to allow a center group of links to float relative to the pins which hold the links together. A mechanical force applying means presses the chain downward to define fixed horizontal and vertical planes just as the chain is to enter an inspection zone. A magnetic force applying means under the chains holds the chain in the fixed position defined by the mechanical force applying means as the chain moves through the inspection zone.
Abstract:
A rod treatment line consists of a rod conveyor on which the rod is carried in open loop form, a coil forming device for forming the rod into coils, and a coil loader for moving the coils from the coil forming device to a loading station with the axes of the coils horizontal. For removing the coils there is a conveying system consisting of a number of hooks suspended from a track, the hooks being aligned with the track and pointed in the direction opposite to the direction of movement. In order to bring the hooks to the loading station pointed towards the coil forming device, so as to facilitate loading, the track is routed in its approach to the loading station, to pass the coil forming device from the direction of the rod conveyor.
Abstract:
A paper conveying system, particularly adapted for use in conveying paper blanks through an envelope making machine by means of at least two parallel opposed endless strip conveyors which are formed of flexible permanent magnet material with both the north and south magnetic poles positioned on a common surface, the common surfaces of the strips being opposed whereby the strips are attracted to one another and will grip a paper blank therebetween. A magnetic roller is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A clamp for seizing and holding and/or manipulating articles or products by means of clamp jaws forming a clamp gap when the clamp is closed. The clamp jaws move away from one another in their open position and towards one another in their closed position in the extension of the clamp gap. There is also disclosed equipment for manipulating products or the like, particularly printed products which arrive in overlapping staggered or fish-scale formation, such equipment being provided with a number of such clamps.
Abstract:
A continuous belt conveyor for transporting bottles to be processed includes an inclined ramp portion for elevating bottles to a moving horizontal platform portion, screw means for selectively adjusting the height of the moving horizontal platform portion without varying the length or tension of the conveyor belt, a variable pitch horizontally disposed screw guide for uniformly spacing bottles as they enter upon the moving horizontal platform, and a plurality of uniformly spaced neck gripping overhead bottle carriers mounted on a continuous overhead chain moving in synchronism with the conveyor belt, with overhead cam means adjacent to the junction between the inclined ramp portion and the horizontal platform portion of the conveyor belt for causing the overhead bottle grippers to be successively elevated over, aligned with, and then lowered onto neck locking engagement with individual bottles passing therebeneath. The overhead bottle grippers comprise a clam shell type of structure opened when elevated and closed when lowered and a surrounding rotatable cylindrical shield which holds the clam shells in locked position when lowered thereover and which also by engagement with a suitable rack produces a rotation of the bottles as they are carried thereby through a spray processing station. A synchronous drive mechanism including a feedback loop between the conveyor belt and the overhead chain conveyor maintains constant speed and physical relationship between the two continuously moving conveyor means.
Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed to sanitary conveyor belts of polypropylene or other suitable plastic material having an integrally hinged construction defined by spaced notches which define the hinge points as well as drive engagement points between the belt and the sprockets having teeth which mate with the spaced notches. The belt construction also has one or more longitudinal notched grooves which defines a tracking and aligning groove which mates with a multi-faceted aligning member arranged polygonally about the perimeter of the sprockets which support the conveyor belt to preserve its alignment with the drive sprockets. The conveyor belt is used with an air levitation means in the form of a plenum chamber having openings to direct low pressure air against the underside of the belt to reduce friction drag when the belt is loaded.
Abstract:
A high speed article feeding system for forming a single lane input of articles into a multiple lane output delivered in a controlled sequence regardless of occasional missisng articles in the input lane. The apparatus includes an endless conveyor with a continuous series of laterally movable article support plates or bars, a plurality of which form one group supporting a single article. Alternate groups of support plates are mechanically separated to follow to the left and right sides of the longitudinal centerline of the conveyor. Then, the separated left and right side groups are each diverted to one or the other of two output lanes by electro-mechanical means including two switching gates. By mechanically separating the input of articles into two groups, followed by an electro-mechanical diversion to further separate each of the two groups into one or the other of two output lanes, high speed, four lane discharge is achieved without the usual response-time limitations of the conventional single-gate type of diverter.
