Abstract: An apparatus includes a spin torque oscillator, a sensor, and a processing unit. The spin torque oscillator is configured to receive a current and to generate a microwave output signal. The sensor is configured to detect the microwave output signal and to detect changes to frequency of the detected microwave output signal responsive to changes in an external magnetic field. The processing unit is configured to receive a sensed signal from the sensor. The processing unit is further configured to process the sensed signal and the changes to the frequency to determine magnitude and direction associated with the external magnetic field.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed to perform early termination error recovery at a data storage device. A data storage device may be configured to perform error recovery operations in response to encountering an error while executing a host command, and terminate the error recovery operations prior to completion based on an error recovery time limit. Based on early termination of the error recovery operations, the storage device can add a storage location corresponding to the error to a scan list of storage locations on which to perform additional error recovery operations. In some embodiments, the host may set the error recovery time limit.

If the keys match, then the user device is authorized and the user is allowed to access data of the network resource. The keys may further be selected and used to encrypt and decrypt data. Different key selections provide security to communications.

Abstract: A heater power of a heat-assisted magnetic recording head is set to an initial power to induce an initial head-medium clearance. For a plurality of iterations, a heater power at an optimum laser power is determined that achieve a target clearance. If differences in the heater power and optimum laser power between the two subsequent iterations are below a threshold, the iterations are stopped and the heater power and the optimum laser power for one of the two subsequent iterations is used as an operational heater power and laser power for the heat-assisted magnetic recording head.

Abstract: A method comprises creating calibration data using a first control circuitry of an apparatus, replacing the first control circuitry with a second control circuitry in the apparatus, and operating the apparatus with the second control circuitry using the calibration data. As an example, the apparatus may be a disc drive. The second control circuitry may be substantially similar to the first control circuitry such that calibration measurements using the first control circuitry are applicable to the second control circuitry. The first control circuitry may be included in a circuit board that is replaced with a second circuit board including the second control circuitry. In an exemplary embodiment, the second circuit board may include different and/or additional components relative to the first circuit board, such as integrated video inputs and/or video control circuitry.

Abstract: Systems and methods presented herein provide for open block handling of an SSD. In one embodiment, an SSD includes a buffer, and an MLC flash device. The SSD also includes a controller operable to write data in the buffer based on an Input/Output (I/O) request (e.g., from a host), to begin copying the data from the buffer to a block of the MLC flash device, to copy a portion of the data associated with open word lines of the block to another location in the buffer after a power cycle, and to update a lookup table for the copied portion of the data with the other location so that the copied portion of the data can be accessed via a subsequent I/O request.
