    Abstract: A fault-accommodating flow scheduling valve has a first inlet, outlet, and orifice therebetween. The valve has a shuttle valve member on the orifice inlet side, a primary valve member on the orifice outlet side, a compression-loaded primary spring, and first and second compression-loaded balance springs. Below a threshold differential pressure, the primary valve member engages with the outlet-side sealing face to close the valve while the shuttle valve member is spaced from the inlet-side sealing face, and on failure of the primary spring, the primary valve member moves from the outlet-side sealing face but the shuttle valve member closes the valve. Above the threshold differential pressure, the primary valve member opens the valve while the shuttle valve member remains spaced, and on failure of the primary spring, the primary valve member moves further from the outlet-side sealing face but the shuttle valve member closes the valve.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying a cladding layer to a surface of a component uses a cladding tool having a maximum reach less than the size of the surface. Geometry of the surface is segmented into a plurality of tessellated segments, each of which has a peripheral extent determined by a maximum reach of the cladding tool. A nominal tool subpath for each tessellated segment is generated, and then combined to generate a nominal tool path for depositing the cladding layer on the surface. The surface is clad using the nominal toolpath, including a process of adjusting the nominal tool path to an adjusted tool path that accounts for dimensions of the bead to be deposited by the tool to match an edge of the bead to be deposited with an edge of a previously deposited bead.

    Abstract: The annulus is bound by an inner hub wall and an outer casing and includes a support structure, the support structure bearing the inner hub wall; at least one spigot passing through the hub wall and at least one strut arranged to pass through the spigot of the inner hub wall and across the annulus. The strut has a first end having an abutment arm extending to form an abutment shoulder. Alignable holes pass through the abutment arm and the spigot and these holes are configured to receive a cross pin which is in turn configured to fit snugly through the holes. The configuration is such that, the abutment rim and abutment shoulder are located radially inwardly of the holes and cross pin and outside of the annulus.

    Abstract: A rig for testing mode II fatigue of a composite component. The rig includes a clamp for clamping one end of the component. A first contact arrangement is provided for contacting one side of the component and a second contact arrangement is provided for contacting an opposing side of the component, the first and second contact arrangements being spaced from the clamp. A loading fork is provided for applying load to the component. The loading fork includes a first and a second portion arranged such that in use, when the loading fork is loading the component in one direction the first portion contacts the first contact arrangement and the second portion is spaced from the second contact arrangement, and when the loading fork is loading the component in an opposite direction the first portion is spaced from the first contact arrangement and the second portion contacts the second contact arrangement.

    Abstract: A double skinned feed or scavenge pipe assembly comprises; an inner pipe (22) and an outer pipe (23) enclosing the inner pipe and defining an annular space (24) between the inner pipe and the outer pipe and a sleeve (28) configured to slip over the outer pipe (23). Complementary threads (29) are provided on an outer wall of the outer pipe (23) and an inner wall of the sleeve (28). A lock, for example in the form of a locking nut (31) is positioned over the outer pipe (23) when the complementary threads (29) of the outer pipe and sleeve are engaged. The configuration of the assembly is such that, in use, the sleeve (28) is slidable between a first position where the inner pipe (22) is accessible and a second position wherein the inner pipe (22) is completely enclosed.

    Abstract: A modular method of balancing a rotor assembly comprising two or more rotor sub-assemblies comprises dynamically balancing a set of rotor units each comprising one of the rotor sub-assemblies (52) and in which every other rotor sub-assembly is substituted by a respective simulator (54A, 56A). A respective set (55X, 55Y, 55Z) of balancing weights is applied to one or more of the rotor sub-assembly and simulators of a rotor unit (50A) to achieve dynamic balancing such that each set only corrects unbalance contributed by that rotor sub-assembly or simulator to which it is applied. Each set which is applied to a simulator is transferred to the corresponding sub-assembly. The sub-assemblies are then mated to form the balanced rotor assembly. Excitation of flexible modes of the balanced rotor assembly during its rotation is reduced or avoided.

    Abstract: A gas turbine engine includes a fan, a fan shaft that rotationally support the fan, a first bearing that rotationally support the fan shaft and a support arrangement configured to support the first bearing. The support arrangement includes a first support member coupled to first bearing and to a mechanical ground to define a first load path, and a second support member coupled to the mechanical ground and first bearing to define a second load path. The second support member is coupled to one of the first bearing and mechanical ground by a first frangible link. A load extends between the bearing and mechanical ground through the first and second loads paths, and in the event of a predetermined radial load being applied to first bearing, the frangible link breaks such that the load extends between the first bearing and the mechanical ground through first but not second load path.
