Abstract:
A method for determining access point service capabilities may include identifying, at a mobile terminal, an access point to which the mobile terminal is capable of establishing a connection, determining, prior to authentication between the mobile terminal and the access point, whether the access point supports a particular service or connection, and enabling a connection determination to be made at the mobile terminal regarding whether to connect to the access point based on whether the access point supports the particular service or connection. A corresponding computer program product and apparatuses are also provided.
Abstract:
A secure network access point transmits a beacon transmission. A user device receiving it determines it does not have credentials necessary to attach with the secure network access point, and so a preliminary association is formed between the user device and the secure network access point. During the preliminary association, the user device receives or creates credentials necessary to associate with the secure network access point, forms an association with the secure network access point using the received or created credentials, and obtains internet connectivity via the secure network access point. In this embodiment there is only the secure network access point, but in another embodiment there is also a non-secure network access point which transmits a beacon using the same SSID as the secure network access point, and the preliminary association is with the non-secure network access point.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to obtain white space information regarding one or more white space channels that are available at the current location of a mobile terminal and one or more service providers that offer connectivity utilizing the white space spectrum. In the context of a method performed, for example, by an access network discovery and selection function device, a location of a mobile terminal is determined and, based on the location of the mobile terminal, white space information is obtained. The method also causes the white space information to be provided to the mobile terminal, such as by utilizing a device management protocol. A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are also provided.
Abstract:
A method of configuring routers facilitates handoff of user equipment from a router to another router. The method includes configuring a virtual interface in a current router used by user equipment. The method also includes assigning a global address to the virtual interface. The global address is assigned to the virtual interface that is used to facilitate handoff of the user equipment from a current router to a new router. A system, router and user equipment are configured to implement the method.
Abstract:
Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products herein enable a communication device to determine contact information for at least one white space database. One example method may include causing location indication information to be transmitted to a white space database discovery server. The method may further include receiving address information for one or more white space databases from the white space database discovery server based at least in part on the location indication information. The method may further include causing a connection with at least one of the one or more white space databases based on the address information.
Abstract:
The exemplary embodiments include a method to perform, based on at least one of hypertext transport protocol and non-hypertext transport protocol traffic tests failing, sending an hypertext transport protocol message to a subscription remediation server URI that carries a package1 message, receiving an hypertext transport protocol response from the subscription mediation server with a package2 message, and automatically replacing a password with a new value, automatically initiating creation of a new client certificate, or launching a browser to a URI provided in the response to enable user intervention. In addition, to receive an access request from a device, determining whether credentials are valid, and if the credentials are determined valid, sending an access-accept message with a success indication, and if the credentials are determined not valid, sending an access-accept message with a success indication and an indication that access by the device is limited to only a subscription remediation server.
Abstract:
According to one general aspect, a method of using a customer premises equipment (CPE) to represent a mobile station (MS) to a base station (BS) is described. Wherein the CPE and the BS are part of a first wireless network based upon a first networking standard, and the MS and the CPE are part of a second wireless network based upon a second networking standard. The method comprising associating the MS with the CPE. The method further comprising indicating to the BS that the CPE is acting as an agent for the MS on the second wireless network. Also comprising acting as an agent, on the second wireless network, for the MS. And comprising, storing context information related to the MS, wherein the context information includes MS context information related the first network and MS context information related the second network.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided according to one example embodiment to allow a user device to access services over an overlay network. The method and apparatus of one example embodiment further allows a user device, such as a mobile terminal, to move freely across network access points without interruption in the services. An example method may include receiving a request for service, allocating an address to the request, configuring rules associated with the request, generating at least one routing table entry from the rules, and providing for transmission of the routing table entry and the address. An address prefix may be associated with the service, in which case the address includes the address prefix. Further, the address prefix may be associated with a unique overlay network. Prior to transmitting the routing table entry, the request for service may require approval. The address may be a static or dynamic address.
Abstract:
According to an example embodiment, a method may include sending, by a mobile station in a wireless network, a dynamic service addition (DSA) message to a base station, the DSA message identifying a packet data network (PDN) by access point name (APN). The method may further include exchanging data with the indicated packet data network via the base station.
Abstract:
A system for selectively updating an address of a mobile node capable of roaming in a home communication network and at least one visited network. The system including a database for storing at least one data entry which is a mapping between a humanly-readable identifier indicating the mobile node and a machine-readable identifier indicating a physical address at which the mobile node can be reached. A home agent in the home network has a connection to the database, and is operable to receive an update message from the mobile node when the mobile node roams into the visited network. Also there are units for determining whether the machine-readable identifier of the at least one entry in the database should be updated, wherein the database is updated if the update message additionally includes the humanly-readable identifier.
