摘要: The present invention includes novel techniques, apparatus, and systems for optical WDM communications. Tunable lasers are employed to generate respective subcarrier frequencies which represent subchannels of an ITU channel to which client signals can be mapped. In one embodiment, subchannels are polarization interleaved to reduce crosstalk. In another embodiment, polarization multiplexing is used to increase the spectral density. Client circuits can be divided and combined with one another before being mapped, independent of one another, to individual subchannels within and across ITU channels. A crosspoint switch can be used to control the client to subchannel mapping, thereby enabling subchannel protection switching and hitless wavelength switching. Network architectures and subchannel transponders, muxponders and crossponders are disclosed, and techniques are employed (at the subchannel level/layer), to facilitate the desired optical routing, switching, concatenation and protection of the client circuits mapped to these subchannels across the nodes of a WDM network.

摘要: An automated budget management and bill payment system is provided where there is at least one customer (1), at least one bank (5), and multiple billers (3). The system has a customer registration process which requires the customer (1) to commit to make regular customer payment to the bank (5) for the cost of bills rendered to the customer (1) by the billers (3). This enables budgeted funds for bill payment to be provided. The customer (1) payment is based on a budget setting process (25) involving all of the anticipated bills from all of the billers (3) over a period of time. The customer (1) registration process also requires the customer (1) to identify each one of the billers (3). A billers (3) registration process is required where each of the billers (3) identifies a respective bill “pay into” account. The system requires the billers (3) to forward bill details to both the customer (1) and the bank (5) and wherein funds are drawn/transferred directly from the budgeted funds of the customer and there is payment of the drawn fund into the biller's “pay into” account for payment of a bill.

摘要: A solid or screen bowl decanting-type centrifuge comprising:a rotatable bowl; a helical scroll conveyor which rotates coaxially within the bowl at a different rotational speed, the helical scroll comprising a hub carrying a plurality of flights whose radially outer edges lie close to an inner wall of the bowl such that, in use, solids are scrolled by the conveyer to solids discharge ports at one end of the bowl, with separated liquid being discharged from liquids discharge ports at the opposite end of the bowl. The conveyor hub carries a plurality of nozzles in a wash zone for supplying wash fluid to solids being scrolled by the conveyer towards the solids discharge ports. The conveyor hub also carries a blade in the region of the nozzles and intermediate adjacent flights of the conveyor for directing fluid droplets from the nozzles over said solids.
