The partitioning-drive processing section generates pixel signals for the four colors through performing a first color-conversion based on the input image signals, generates the emission pattern signal from pixel signals for the three colors, primary partitioning-drive image signals for the three colors from both the input image signals and the emission pattern signal, and the partitioning-drive image signals through performing a second color-conversion on the primary partitioning-drive image signals.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a display control apparatus and method, and a program that are capable of appropriately controlling the luminance of light to be emitted by backlights with simple processing. On the basis of an input image signal, a peripheral-representative-value computation unit (141) computes, as a peripheral representative value, luminance that is output by backlights of a block of interest and blocks in the periphery thereof among the backlights formed from a plurality of blocks. A peripheral-contribution-amount computation unit (142) divides the peripheral representative value by light-emission efficiency based on a light-emission profile that is an output luminance distribution when the block of interest emits light so as to compute the amount of peripheral contribution by peripheral blocks to the block of interest. A light-emission level computation unit (143) computes the backlight luminance as a light-emission level by dividing a necessary amount of light emission of the block of interest by the amount of peripheral contribution. The present invention can be applied to a display device, such as a liquid-crystal display.

A color component image with a relatively high luminance level is extracted as a fundamental image from an input image. A differential image is obtained by subtracting color component of the fundamental image from an input image, and is decomposed into a plurality of color components. The differential image for each color component is divided into two. The fundamental image is displayed at a middle timing of a frame period. The half-divided differential images are displayed at timings before and after the middle timing for the fundamental image so that the half-divided differential image with higher luminance level with consideration for visibility characteristic is displayed at a timing closer to the middle timing for the fundamental image.

A necessary light emission level calculation unit (101) calculates a necessary attention block light emission level of a back light in an attention block which satisfies a necessary luminance based on an image signal. A first neighborhood block light emission level calculation unit (103) calculates, in a case where a luminance is deficient at a largest light emission level at which the light can be emitted by the back light in the attention block, a light emission level of first neighborhood blocks which satisfies a deficient luminance by a light emission contribution amount to the attention block through light emission in the first neighborhood blocks of the attention block which satisfies the deficient luminance by the back light in the attention block.
