Methods for the hydrogenation of isoflavones are described which provide access to workable quantities of isoflavan-4-ols, isoflav-3-enes, and isoflavans. The isoflavone derivatives can be obtained in high purity and in near quantitative yields whilst employing pharmaceutically acceptable reagents and solvents.

The present invention relates to a process for the isolation of a novel oligospirostanoside structurally constructed as 3-0-[&agr;-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-&agr;-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)-0-&bgr;-D-glucopyranosyl]-25(S)-5&bgr; spirostan-3&bgr;-ol isolated from Asparagus racemosus and biologically evaluated as a potent immunomodulatory agent.

A process for the manufacture of pharmaceutical grade ranitidine base(N-�2-���5-(Dimethylamino)methyl!-2-furanyl!methyl!thio!ethyl-N'-methyl-2-nitro-1, 1-ethenediamine), is described. In-vitro and in-vivo pharmacological studies and acute toxicity studies indicate that it is as active and as safe as Form 2 ranitidine hydrochloride.

An appliance for use in a method of reducing facial aging and/or oral parafunctional activity e.g. bruxism, comprises two parts, the parts intended in use to contact the posterior teeth on respective opposite sides of either the upper or lower jaw, each part comprising a composite structure comprising: iii) a first layer (2) formed of a durable, resilient, elastomeric material comprising a cured thermoset rubber and which in use contacts the occlusal biting surfaces of the posterior teeth; and iv) a second layer (3) formed of a durable, non-deformable material having a softening point over 100° C. and which in use provides a bite plate; wherein the second layer of each part, that has a substantially planar first surface, is provided with a protrusion (5), formed of durable, non-deformable material having a softening point over 100° C., which extends from at least 2 mm up to 20 mm from a second surface (4) of the second layer (3) away from the first layer (2) and which is positioned such that in use the protrusion extends from the surface above at least a part of the first and/or second molar teeth which are in contact with the first layer. A method of making the appliance and a kit of parts is also disclosed, as are several methods of use of the appliance.

A data exchange adaptor that synchronizes data between an enterprise system operated by a company and a cloud-based system operated by a third party other than the company. The data exchange adaptor enables exchange of data between the enterprise system and the cloud-based system and controls storage and retrieval of data at the enterprise system and the cloud-based system. The data exchange adaptor also performs transport level security for communications that exchange data between the enterprise system and the cloud-based system and access level security for data stored to the enterprise system and the cloud-based system. The data exchange adaptor further schedules synchronization of data between the enterprise system and the cloud-based system and allows the enterprise system to retain control over the synchronization of data between the enterprise system and the cloud-based system.

Systems, methods, and machine-readable media are disclosed for providing dynamic and/or conditional constraints on queries based on an external security policy. In one embodiment, a method is provided which comprises receiving from a user a request to access a resource. A condition clause can be read from a grant statement defined in the security policy. The grant statement can define permission for the user to access the requested resource. In some cases, the grant statement can comprise a Java Authentication and Authorization Service (JAAS) grant statement. A query associated with the requested access can be modified based on the permission granted to the user. The modified query can then be made to perform the requested access.
