Abstract: A system for the detection and classification of live microorganisms in a sample includes a light source and an incubator holding one or more sample-containing growth plates. A translation stage moves the image sensor and/or the growth plate(s) along one or more dimensions to capture time-lapse holographic images of microorganisms. Image processing software executed by a computing device captures time-lapse holographic images of the microorganisms or clusters of microorganisms on the one or more growth plates. The image processing software is configured to detect candidate microorganism colonies in reconstructed, time-lapse holographic images based on differential image analysis. The image processing software includes one or more trained deep neural networks that process the time-lapsed image(s) of candidate microorganism colonies to detect true microorganism colonies and/or output a species associated with each true microorganism colony.

Abstract: Biocompatible and biodegradable polymers are provided herein as compositions, methods, and systems for making the compositions. These polymers can be adjustably stable and used in medical applications as adhesives and sealants, and in non-medical applications. Radical polymerization protocols, and two-step cationic and radical polymerization protocols, are provided for the creation of stable, polydisulfide polymers, which can be done in aqueous solution and at ambient and in vivo temperatures ranging, for example, from 0° C. to 37° C. The compositions are biocompatible and can be used as fast curing, biocompatible and biodegradable adhesives and sealants suitable for use in the consumer, industrial, military and medical arts, namely as a functional biomaterial, sustainable plastic, surgical superglue, bone adhesive, pressure-sensitive adhesive, structural adhesive, and other relevant sustainable materials with closed-loop recycling.

Abstract: A method for carrier aggregation receives a signal with multiple non-contiguous carrier bands. Frequency converting of the signal to a compressed single intermediate frequency band with a pseudonoise code applied to a local oscillation of each of the multiple non-contiguous carrier bands while maintaining separation of the multiple non-contiguous carrier bands permits reduced complexity digital signal processing to detect spectral power density and demodulate waveforms across multiple channels. A receiver includes a pseudorandom noise generator applying a pseudo noise code to the local oscillator generator to produce a unique set of spectral tones in the output signal that sample-specific channels over the multiple non-contiguous carrier bands.

Abstract: A method and system for automated correction of phase error in MRI-based flow evaluation employs a computer processor programmed to execute a trained convolutional neural network (CNN) to receive and process image data comprising flow velocity data in three directions and magnitude data collected from a region of interest over a scan period from magnetic resonance imaging instrumentation. The image data is processed using the trained CNN to generate three output channels with pixelwise inferred corrections for the flow velocity data which are further smoothed using a regression algorithm. The smoothed corrections are added to the original image data to generate corrected flow data, which may be used for flow visualization and quantization.
