Abstract:
A three layer laminate wrap or sleeve for use in oil and gas pipeline applications. The wrap or sleeve comprises an outer, cross-linked polyolefin layer, an inner adhesive layer, and an intermediate layer comprising a non-cross- linked polyolefin. The intermediate layer permits the use of a thinner adhesive layer, resulting in lower costs overall.
Abstract:
A process for preparing a coated or thermally insulated plastic coated pipe containing the step of embossing a surface of a thermoplastic wrap on a pipe, wherein the thermoplastic wrap is applied on an outer surface of the pipe. The process can provide a coated or thermally insulated plastic wrapped pipe having features on the surface that are produced in a controlled and repeated manner. Such features can provide benefits, such as, a surface for affixing concrete on the coated or thermally insulated plastic wrapped pipe.
Abstract:
Laminate covering, in particular tapes and/or wrap-around sheets applied via an auto-wrapping machine, used for the mechanical and corrosion protection of oil, gas and water transmission pipelines. The laminate covering comprises a cross-linked polyolefin outer layer and an inner layer, which may be an adhesive, and has improved mechanical properties when compared to the prior art. The laminate covering may be pre-stretched. Also, a method of applying said laminate covering. The laminate covering can be applied to a pipe in a lower cost, faster application.
Abstract:
An apparatus for heating an elongate tubular article, such as a heat shrinkable sleeve applied around a welded pipe joint during pipeline construction. The apparatus is in the form of a frame which can be disposed around the article, the frame having a heater device having both longitudinally disposed heating zones and radially disposed heating sectors, each of which can be independently controlled. Alternatively, or in combination, the apparatus can have an air circulation system. Also, a method for shrinking a heat shrinkable sleeve comprising use of said apparatus.
Abstract:
A stress control article for protecting joints and terminations in electrical power cables and for controlling electrical stresses, comprises a cover layer comprised of an electrically insulating, flexible polymeric material; and a stress control layer applied to one side of the cover layer. The stress control layer comprises a stress control material which may comprise a particulate filler comprising varistor particles; and a polymer matrix in which the particulate filler is embedded. The polymer matrix may comprise a silicone gum.
