Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a method of holding a veneer sheet which has been dried to a moisture content lower than the fiber saturation point and also heated to a temperature higher than an ambient temperature of an environment where the veneer sheet is held. The veneer sheet is bent in such way that at least a part of the veneer sheet in the longitudinal section thereof along the grain direction is curved and the same veneer sheet in any transverse section thereof perpendicular to the grain direction is substantially straight. The veneer sheet held bent is held for a predetermined period of time.
Abstract:
Offtrack amounts corresponding to every servo in which data writing has been completed is stored in a storage unit. Offtrack amount corresponding to a next servo frame, which is a servo frame present next to a servo frame for which data has been written, is calculated from the offtrack amounts stored in the storage unit. Based on the offtrack amount of the next servo frame, it is decided whether data needs to be rewritten in a sector present before the next servo frame.
Abstract:
A waveguide type variable optical attenuator is provided with a substrate for forming a waveguide for optical signal propagation; a waveguide element comprising 2 arm waveguides arranged on the surface of the substrate for constituting a portion of the waveguide and cladding for covering the arm waveguides and the surface of the substrate; and a heater arranged on the surface of the waveguide element for heating the arm waveguides. The 2 arm waveguides are connected thermally.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing glued laminated wood such as laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is disclosed. The glued laminated wood is made of a number of wood sheets such as veneer sheets which are laminated together by a hot press with a thermosetting adhesive into a continuous length of multiple-layered board wherein the end joints of the wood sheets are disposed in a staggered array. There is provided an initial base material having an end which is shaped in the form of a flight of steps including a series of alternate horizontal surface having a lengthwise dimension smaller than the length of the wood sheet and a vertical surface having a height corresponding to the wood sheet thickness, and the glued laminated wood board is formed extending from the end of such initial base material. The hot press includes a pair of heat plates each having an effective pressing area capable of covering the entire surface of the wood sheet. In hot pressing a wood sheet having on one surface thereof coated with adhesive, a board of the glued laminated wood in progress is placed and maintained for a predetermined length of time at a position where the entire top surface of the wood sheet is kept to be pressed from the top by one of the plates while the entire lower surface of the wood sheet is supported from the bottom by the other plate.
Abstract:
One of the objects of the present invention is to offer novolak type phenolic resins which use phenols and aldehydes as raw materials and give narrow molecular weight distributions. The novolak type phenolic resins of the present invention are those obtained by condensation reaction of phenols with aldehydes in the presence of an oxycarboxylic acid having carboxyl groups, --COOH, and alcoholic hydroxyl groups, --OH, in one molecule. Thus obtained novolak type phenolic resins show narrow molecular weight distributions, lower viscosity in molten state and, as a consequence, uniformity in curing time.
Abstract:
A water-less PS plate for use in making a water-less lithographic printing plate comprises, on a substrate, a photopolymerizable light-sensitive layer and a silicone rubber layer in this order, wherein the light-sensitive layer is formed from a photopolymerizable light-sensitive composition which contains an urea bond-containing polyurethane as a binder. According to the present invention, there is obtained a water-less PS plate having good resistance to scratch and high printing durability. Moreover, the resulting light-sensitive layer does not get sticky, the light-sensitive layer of the non-image portions is not peeled off during the printing operations, and the lithographic plate shows good dyeability and plate-examination property.
Abstract:
A process for the production of porous phenolic resin fibers is disclosed, which process comprises graft-polymerizing to phenolic resin fibers a vinyl group-containing monomer capable of forming a thermally decomposable polymer, and thereafter subjecting the fibers to a heat treatment at a temperature high enough to cause thermal decomposition of the graft polymer. The product thus obtained is excellent in heat-resistance and adiabatic property in addition to useful properties inherent to phenolic resin fibers.
Abstract:
A microwave oven having an improved electric field distribution to allow uniform heating of an article to be heated is disclosed. High frequency exciting means is positioned at the center, both depthwise and lengthwise, of a heating chamber of substantially parallelepiped structure, and the shapes and construction of the reflecting plate, stirrer vane, mount for partition and heating cavity are improved to allow uniform electric field distribution and improvement in cooking performance.
Abstract:
A storage device receives and holds a storage medium that is subjected to first servo writing processing for writing servo information, a Gray code of which is offset, from an inner cylinder or an outer cylinder to a predetermined cylinder and, after the first servo writing processing, subjected to second servo writing processing for writing servo information from an opposite direction to the predetermined cylinder and in which Gray codes are written to be offset not to overlap in the first or second servo writing processing and the pieces of servo information having different mark patterns are written in the first servo writing processing and the second servo writing processing. The storage device acquires cylinder information and mark patterns from the servo information written in the held storage medium and controls a position of a head based on the acquired cylinder information and mark patterns.
Abstract:
A rewrite determining unit acquires, for every servo frame recorded on a magnetic disk, an amplification degree, i.e., a gain of an amplifier circuit by which a read signal read from the magnetic disk is amplified to a predetermined output, determines a rewrite sector count based on the amplification degree, and performs data rewriting according to the rewrite sector count.
