    摘要: In one embodiment, a perpendicular magnetic recording medium (PMRM) includes a first interlayer comprising Ru or a Ru alloy, a second interlayer above the first interlayer comprising Ru or a Ru alloy, and a third interlayer formed between the first interlayer and the second interlayer that reduces an average cluster size of the second interlayer. In another embodiment, a PMRM includes a first interlayer comprising Ru or a Ru alloy, a second interlayer above the first interlayer comprising Ru or a Ru alloy, and a third interlayer formed between the first interlayer and the second interlayer that reduces an average cluster size of the second interlayer. The third interlayer has a thickness of between about 1.0 nm and about 3.0 nm and has a structure selected from a group consisting of: BCC, B2, C11b, L21, and D03. Other PMRMs and methods of fabrication are presented as well.

The magnetic recording medium comprises a non-magnetic substrate and a magnetic layer formed thereon with three underlayers interposed inbetween. The magnetic layer is composed of a plurality of layers of Co-based alloy of hexagonal close-packed structure which are antiferromagnetically coupled to one another through a non-magnetic intermediate layer, said three underlayers including an amorphous alloy layer, a Ta layer, and a Cr-based alloy layer of body-centered cubic structure.

    摘要: An inplane magnetic recording medium having high S/N and thermal stability and a reliable magnetic storage device having surface recording density of 50 megabit/mm2 or more is described. The magnetic recording medium includes magnetic layers formed on a nonmagnetic substrate with a plurality of ground layers therebetween, at least one of the ground layers formed from an alloy of a body-centered cubic structure containing Cr as a main component and B of from 2 atomic % to 12 atomic %. Main components of the magnetic layers include a lower magnetic layer containing Co and Cr of from 10 atomic % to 16 atomic %, with film thickness of from 1.5 nm to 4.5 nm, and an upper magnetic layer containing Co, coupling anti-ferromagnetically with the lower magnetic layer through nonmagnetic intermediate layers.

    摘要: Disclosed is a magnetic recording medium and a method for manufacturing the same to provide a magnetic recording medium reducing medium noise and having excellent thermal stability. The magnetic recording medium includes a substantially amorphous seed layer and a polycrystal underlayer made of crystal grains having a substantially columnar structure, the polycrystal underlayer contacting thereto. In a boundary between the seed layer and the underlayer, fine grooves having a period up to as large as the magnetic layer crystal grain diameter are formed in the disc circumferential direction. Accordingly, the magnetic recording medium is allowed to have a grain shape with a value obtained by dividing the average grain diameter for the disc circumferential direction by the average grain diameter for the disc radial direction of no less than 0.5 and no more than 0.9, thus achieving simultaneously reduction of the medium noise and thermal stability.
