Abstract: The present invention relates to a transfer case (16) lubrication system (42) that includes a housing (44) defining a chamber and having a lower portion (58). A partition (46) extends from the lower portion (58) and is disposed in the chamber so as to define a reservoir for oil, adjacent to the partition (46) and spaced from the chamber. First and second sprocket (50)s are supported in the chamber, with the first sprocket (48) being spaced from the reservoir. The system also includes a pump assembly (52) having an oil pump (78), a pickup (80) in fluid communication with the pump and at least partially disposed in the reservoir, and a spray bar (82) in fluid communication with the pump for directing oil from the reservoir to a predetermined location within the chamber. Abstract: A dual drive gear of an actuation assembly for a transfer case includes an annular disk, a dual drive gear hub, and a sense plate. The annular disk has an inner periphery and an outer periphery. The outer periphery defines a plurality of teeth projecting radially outward. The dual drive gear hub is attached to the inner periphery of the annular disk and has an inner surface that defines a bore extending through a center of the dual drive gear. The dual drive gear hub includes a pair of curved walls projecting from a first axial end face of the annular disk. The sense plate projects from a second axial end face of the annular disk opposite of the first axial end face and includes a plurality of curved wall sections. The annular disk, the dual drive gear hub, and the sense plate are formed together as a single piece.

Abstract: A power transmitting component that includes a clutch, a valve and a ball ramp mechanism. The clutch has a hub, a housing, a clutch pack and an apply plate. The clutch pack has sets of friction plates that are mounted to the hub and the housing. The valve includes a valve element, which is received in a bore in the hub, an inlet and an outlet. The ball ramp mechanism has first and second ball ramp rings and is operable for selectively translating the apply plate to compress the friction plates against the housing as well as for translating the valve element to open the valve. The second ball ramp ring is coupled to the hub for rotation therewith. The first ball ramp ring is rotatable relative to the second ball ramp ring.

Abstract: A transfer case comprises a primary output shaft, and a secondary output shaft selectively coupleable to the primary output shaft with a plate clutch to transfer torque therebetween. The plate clutch includes a housing, a plurality of interleaved plates that are engaged alternatingly with the primary output shaft and the housing to rotate therewith, and an apply plate non-selectively coupled to the primary output shaft to rotate therewith. The apply plate is moveable axially along the primary output shaft into a first configuration in which the apply plate is positively coupled to the housing to rotate therewith, a second configuration in which the apply plate rotates independent of the housing, and a third configuration in which the apply plate compresses the interleaved plates to form a friction coupling between the primary output shaft and the housing.

Abstract: An engine variable camshaft timing phaser (10) includes a sprocket (12) and a planetary gear assembly (14). The sprocket (12) receives rotational drive input from an engine crankshaft. The planetary gear assembly (14) includes two or more ring gears (26, 28), multiple planet gears (24), a sun gear (22), and a wrap spring (76). One of the ring gears (26, 28) receives rotational drive input from the sprocket (12) and one of the ring gears (26, 28) transmits rotational drive output to an engine camshaft. The sun gear (22) engages with the planet gears (24). The wrap spring (76) experiences expansion and contraction exertions to permit advancing and retarding engine valve opening and closing, and to prevent advancing and retarding engine valve opening and closing.

Abstract: A drive module with a housing, an electric motor coupled to the housing, a differential assembly, a transmission, and a filter-strainer assembly. The housing has an exterior wall member that defines an internal cavity and a suction tube. The internal cavity at least partly forms a lubricant sump with a sump outlet. The suction tube is spaced apart from and does not intersect the internal cavity such that the suction tube is not in direct fluid communication with the internal cavity. Abstract: A power transmitting component with a differential assembly and a planetary reduction that has a plurality of compound planet gears. Each of the compound planet gears is rotatable about a rotary planet axis and has first and second planet gears that are nonrotatably coupled to one another and spaced axially apart from one another along an associated one of the rotary planet axes.
