摘要: An optical scanning device for scanning an information layer of a first optical record carrier having a first cover layer thickness and an information layer of a second optical record carrier having a second, different cover layer thickness. The device includes an objective lens system for converging a radiation beam on the information layers. The objective lens system includes a first lens element and a second lens element spaced apart along an optical axis. The objective lens system further includes a switchable optical element comprising a first fluid, and a chamber positioned between said first lens and said second lens. The objective lens system is switchable between a first configuration in which the first fluid occupies an optically active portion of the chamber such that the objective lens system has a first focal length for scanning the information layer of the first optical record carrier, and a second configuration in which the first fluid does not occupy the optically active portion of the chamber such that the objective lens system has a second, different focal length for scanning the information layer of the second optical record carrier. The objective lens system is arranged to satisfy the condition: Focal2−Focal1>0.9 (T2−T1)/N, where T1 is the first cover layer thickness, T2 is the second cover layer thickness, T2>T1, N is the refractive index of the second cover layer, Focal 1 is the first focal length, and Focal2 is the second focal length.

摘要: A method of manufacturing a collection of variable focus lenses comprising two electrodes (21, 22) and a fluid chamber filled with two fluids which are separated by a meniscus, wherein the shape of the meniscus is variable under the influence of a voltage, comprises the following steps: providing an electrically insulating body (60) having a plurality of through-holes (14, 65); applying electrically conducting material to a surface of the body (60) in order to obtain the electrodes (21, 22); covering at least one of the obtained electrodes (21, 22) by a layer of electrically insulating material; covering an inner surface of a part of the through-holes (14) with a hydrophobic material; partially sealing these through-holes (14); arranging the fluids inside the partially sealed through-holes (14); completely sealing the through-holes (14); and dividing the body (60) into portions, such that each portion constitutes a complete lens.

摘要: The present invention relates to an autostereoscopic display device, comprising an imaging layer (9) and a lens layer (10). The lens layer (10) serves to project different content from the imaging layer (9) to the left and right eyes, respectively, of a user. The lens layer (10) comprises lens cells (12), enclosing two fluids (13, 14) with different refractive indices. The shape of the interface between the fluids may be changed using electrowetting, by means of two individually controllable electrodes (21, 22) at the sides of each lens cell (12). The display device further comprises a user head tracking device and means for controlling the lens cell electrodes depending on a detected user head position. This allows the display device to display a correct 3D-image, even if the user moves his head.

摘要: A device comprises an acoustic lens (100) with a variable focal length and means (12) for directing incoming acoustic waves onto the lens. The acoustic lens comprises a curved boundary between two fluid media (1, 2) in which the acoustic waves have different propagation velocities. Means (5, 6, 7) are provided for applying a force directly onto one of the fluid media (1) so as to induce a displacement of the boundary (M1, M2). Such arrangement of the acoustic lens makes it possible to achieve rapid variations in the focal.

摘要: Disclosed is a variable focus lens, having an optical axis, comprising: a fluid chamber, the fluid chamber comprising a first fluid and an axially displaced second fluid, the fluids being non-miscible, in contact over a meniscus and having different indices of refraction; a fluid contact layer arranged on the inside of the chamber wall; a first electrode separated from the first fluid and second electrode by the fluid contact layer; a second electrode acting on the second fluid; the fluid contact layer having a wettability by the second fluid which varies under the application of a voltage between the first electrode and the second electrode, such that the shape of the meniscus varies in dependence on said voltage; wherein the fluid chamber is shaped such that an angle formed between the wall of the chamber and the optical axis decreases along the length of the optical axis.

A controller is provided to vary the configuration of the fluid to control the amount of refraction provided by the beam deflector element over a predetermined range.

摘要: An optical scanning device (1) for scanning at least one information layer (2) of at least one optical record carrier (3). The device includes a radiation source (7) for providing at least a first radiation beam (4) comprising a first wavelength, an objective lens system (8) for converging the first radiation beam on a respective information layer (2), an information detector (23) for detecting at least a portion of the first radiation beam (22) reflected from the respective information layer, for determining information on said layer, and a spherical aberration detection system. The spherical aberration detection system includes an aberration detector (24) for detecting at least a portion of the reflected first radiation beam for determining spherical aberration of the first radiation beam, and a diffractive element (26) for diffracting at least a portion of the reflected first radiation beam towards the aberration detector (24), and for transmitting at least a portion of the reflected first radiation beam towards the information detector (23). In a first mode of operation the grating is arranged to introduce a phase change to an incident portion of a radiation beam for transmitting that portion towards the information detector (23). In a second mode of operation the grating is arranged to introduce a phase change to an incident portion of the reflected first radiation beam for diffracting that portion towards the aberration detector (24).

摘要: An objective lens system for an optical biopsy device has a lens that comprises a first part configured for viewing at a first magnification, and a second part configured for viewing at a second magnification. The second magnification is substantially different from the first magnification. The first magnification enables viewing a larger area of a target and the second magnification enables viewing the target at a cellular level with high sensitivity and specificity. Combining viewing at two different magnifications in a single objective lens results in a compact optical biopsy device.
