Abstract: A compressor may include first and second scrolls, a hub plate and a valve. The first scroll may include an end plate defining first and second sides, a primary discharge passage extending therethrough, and a secondary discharge passage extending therethrough and located radially outward from the primary discharge passage. The hub plate may be mounted to the first scroll and may include first and second opposite sides and a hub discharge passage in fluid communication with the primary discharge passage. The first side of the hub plate may face the second side of the end plate and may include a valve guide extending axially toward the end plate adjacent the hub discharge passage. The valve member may be secured on the valve guide for axial movement between open and closed positions to respectively allow and restrict fluid communication between the secondary discharge passage and the hub discharge passage.

Abstract: A refrigeration system includes a compressor, an evaporator connected to a low pressure line of the compressor, a condenser, an expansion device, and a cooling circuit. The cooling circuit includes at least one coolant supply line to channel a coolant towards the compressor, at least one coolant flow channel defined by a housing of the compressor that channels the coolant towards a motor of the compressor, a coolant return line to channel the coolant towards the low pressure line of the compressor, and a damping chamber located between the coolant return line and the low pressure line of the compressor. The damping chamber includes a damping chamber inlet to allow the coolant to enter a damping chamber volume from the coolant return line and damping chamber outlets to allow the coolant in the damping chamber volume to enter the low pressure line of the compressor.

Abstract: A method for determining a mass flow of a dynamic compressor that does not include a mass flow sensor while the compressor is operating to compress a working fluid includes determining, by a processor, a current operating point of the compressor. If the current operating point is the same as one in a map of a plurality of predetermined operating points stored in a memory, the mass flow of that predetermined operating point is retrieved as the mass flow of the current operating point. Otherwise, the processor calculates the mass flow at the current operating point from the mass flows of a subset of the predetermined operating points nearest the current operating point. The dynamic compressor continues to operate to compress the working fluid based at least in part on the calculated mass flow rate for the current operating point.

Abstract: A compressor may include first and second scrolls, a hub plate and a valve member. The first scroll includes an end plate having a primary discharge passage and a secondary discharge passage. The secondary discharge passage is disposed radially outward from the primary discharge passage. The hub plate is mounted to the first scroll and has a hub discharge passage extending therethrough. The hub discharge passage is in fluid communication with the primary discharge passage. The valve member is movable between open and closed positions. The valve member restricts fluid flow through the secondary discharge passage when in the closed position to restrict fluid communication between the secondary discharge passage and the hub discharge passage. The valve member allows fluid flow through from the secondary discharge passage when in the open position to allow fluid communication between the secondary discharge passage and the hub discharge passage.
