Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for generating a virtual view of a scene associated with a vehicle. In one embodiment, a method includes: obtaining image data including a plurality of images captured by a plurality of cameras of the vehicle; obtaining steering angle data captured by a sensor of the vehicle; detecting, by a processor, a shadow in at least one image of the plurality of images; determining, by the processor, auto-white balance data for each image of the plurality of images; selectively combining, by the processor, the auto-white balance data of the images based on the detected shadow, and the steering angle data; and generating, by the processor, output image data based on the combined auto-white balance data and the image data.

Abstract: An in-vehicle violence detection and fusion system includes a standard vehicle camera positioned within a vehicle capturing images of at least one occupant of the vehicle. An event camera positioned within the vehicle captures motion images of the at least one occupant. A standard vehicle camera-based region of interest (ROI) signal and an event camera-based ROI signal are received and fused by an ROI fusion module to generate a fused ROI signal. A threat evaluation module receives the fused ROI signal and augments the fused ROI signal with saved data to assist in differentiating normal events from threat events. An event camera-based violence indicator identifies the threat events to the at least one occupant of the vehicle.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus are provided for real-time adjustment of image quality parameters. The system includes a controller configured to: acquire an image frame, having a fixed-pixel region that defines a region-of-interest, from one or more imaging devices; apply image processing techniques to determine a modified fixed-pixel region that excludes non-relevant object pixels; alter one or more image quality parameters based on statistics of pixels in the modified fixed-pixel region; and provide the altered one or more image quality parameters to the one or more imaging devices for use with subsequent image frames; wherein the one or more imaging devices produce an image that is tuned, based on the altered one or more image quality parameters, to the portions of the image in the region-of-interest that does not include the non-relevant object pixels.

Abstract: A method includes capturing a first image of an object at a first time using a camera and assigning shade values to a plurality of pixels in a portion of the first image. The object includes a light portion and a dark portion that is darker than the light portion. The method further includes identifying a first mode value of the shade values corresponding to the light portion of the object in the first image, and identifying a second mode value of the shade values corresponding to the dark portion of the object in the first image. The method further includes determining a difference between the first and second mode values, and determining a contrast of the first image based on the difference.

Abstract: An enhanced imaging system for a motor vehicle includes a vision processing module that generates a data signal, in response to the camera capturing at least one of the video and the image. A graphics processor is configured to tone map the video or image to generate an RGB histogram including an overall tonal range. The processor is further configured to compare the overall tonal range to a tonal threshold. The processor detects one or more objects having a boundary that separates an interior region having an object tonal value from an exterior region having an exterior tonal value. The processor generates an optimized signal for increasing a difference between the object tonal value and the exterior tonal value, in response to the overall tonal range being above the tonal threshold. The system can further include a display device for displaying an optimized video or image.

Abstract: A lens-cleaning assembly includes an ultrasonic cleaning system configured to selectively generate vibrations in a lens. The ultrasonic cleaning system is operable to selectively generate cleaning vibrations at a plurality of pulse widths. The cleaning system also includes a controller in communication with the ultrasonic cleaning system. The controller is configured to automatically determine a target pulse width among the plurality of pulse widths in response to a detected characteristic of a detected occlusion on the lens, and to automatically control the ultrasonic cleaning system to generate a cleaning vibration having the target pulse width.

Abstract: A method for operating an advanced park assist system of a vehicle includes a vehicle controller receiving, from front and side cameras mounted proximate front and side sections of the vehicle, real-time images of the vehicle's forward-facing and side-facing views. These images are analyzed to detect target elements present in the vehicle's forward-facing and/or side-facing views. Responsive to detecting a target element, heading control signals are transmitted to the vehicle's steering system to reposition the vehicle and thereby locate the target element at the center of the forward-facing view and at the top of the side-facing view. Speed control signals are transmitted to the vehicle's propulsion system to propel the vehicle such that the target element disappears from the side-facing view and moves to a calibrated distance from the vehicle body's front end. The control signals are modulated to align the vehicle with a target marker of the target element.

Abstract: A method for operating an advanced driver assistance (ADAS) system of a motor vehicle includes a vehicle controller receiving, from side and end cameras mounted to the vehicle, camera signals indicative of real-time images of outboard-facing side and end views of the vehicle. The controller determines a region of interest (ROI) inset within each end/side view within which is expected foreign objects and/or hazards. These ROIs are analyzed to detect if a foreign object/hazard is present in the vehicle's end and/or side views. Responsive to detecting the foreign object/hazard, movement of the foreign object/hazard is tracked to determine if the foreign object/hazard moves towards or away from the vehicle's underbody region. If the foreign object/hazard moves to the underbody region, control signals are transmitted to the vehicle's propulsion and/or steering system to automate preventative action that prevents collision of the vehicle with and/or removes the foreign object/hazard from the underbody.
