Abstract: A unified communications automated personal name addressing system is provided. The system creates personal address books for system subscribers automatically, without requiring the manual entry of name and address pairs by the subscriber. The system enables a subscriber to appropriately address a communication by providing the name of the intended recipient. In particular, the system of the present invention allows a subscriber to conveniently address any type of communication that may be sent from a unified communication server, even while interfacing with the unified communications server using a conventional voice telephone.

Abstract: A multi-media messaging system (101) allows message recipients who lack full-motion video message-retrieval capability to retrieve at least some image content of video messages via video snapshots--image frames retrieved as still images. The system determines (302) the video capability of the recipient's terminal. If it is not full-motion video, the system plays back (320) only the soundtrack of the video message and monitors (400) the recipient's input for a snapshot request. Upon receipt of a snapshot request, the system captures (402-410) the image frame of the video message that corresponds in the video message to the point in the playback of the soundtrack at which the request was made and converts the frame from moving-image format to still-image format. If the recipient's terminal's video capability is slow video, the system sends (432) the converted frame to the recipient's terminal during simultaneous or interrupted playback of the soundtrack. If the capability is still image or voice-only, the system queues (434) the converted frame, and when soundtrack playback ends, the system queries (502) for the address of an image-retrieval terminal and sends (510, 522) the queued frames to that address.

Abstract: The concept of chained parallel forking is introduced. Addresses of record are included in a contactee's contact resolution preferences to enable an incoming INVITE message to be routed to one or more users as well as other devices, per the contactee's contact resolution preferences. A communication system configured to execute the chained parallel forking contact resolution process is also described.

Abstract: The concept of a centralized communication log is provided. Anchor points, and specifically Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) anchor points, serve as a media and call control point that is established on a per-user basis which can then be leveraged by a communication log service. Such a communication log service is able to determine accurate and real-time communicant information for a communication session and populate a centralized communication log with the same. Such a communication log is, therefore, accurate with respect to multiple users in a system, highly available, and scaled horizontally.

Abstract: Mobile telephone user route mapping services and coverage area warning services and systems for providing such services are provided. Origination location and destination location information is entered, and a route between the locations along which wireless telephone system coverage is available is returned. If the returned route is less preferable than another possible route along which there are areas of poor coverage or no coverage, the provider of the wireless telephone system is informed, and this information can be used to identify areas in which improved coverage would most benefit mobile telephone users. A warning may also be provided to inform the parties to a call that a participant using a mobile telephone is about to enter an area of poor coverage or of no coverage. The described services may be offered in return for a fee paid to the service provider.
