Abstract: A simplified syntax signalling for the number of palette indices is disclosed, where the syntax element corresponding to the total number of palette indices minus one is signalled and the palette indices are associated with the copy-index modes in the current block. In another embodiment, a syntax corresponding to the number of palette indices minus 1 is signalled, where the palette indices are associated with the copy-index modes in the current block. According to this embodiment, the syntax is constrained to a range from 0 to block size minus 1. In yet another embodiment, conformance constraint is imposed on the palette predictor run. For a current position of the palette predictor list, a syntax element corresponding to a current palette predictor run is parsed from the input bitstream and the syntax element is constrained to a range of values access valid entries in the palette predictor.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of predictive Intra coding of a block are disclosed. In one embodiment according to the present invention, a set of Intra prediction modes is determined, and predictive Intra coding is applied to a prediction unit (PU) of an image based on one or more neighboring PUs according to a current Intra prediction mode. The current Intra prediction mode is selected from the set of Intra prediction modes and the current Intra prediction mode is predicted using most probable modes (MPMs) and remaining modes. A number of the remaining modes is kept as a power of 2. For example, the 32 remaining modes can be represented using 5-bit fixed length codes.

Abstract: A method of video coding using coding modes including IntraBC mode (Intra-block copy mode) and inter prediction mode is disclosed. In one embodiment, when adaptive motion vector resolution is selected to allow adaptive use of integer resolution or fractional-pel resolution, a resolution indicator having a value corresponding to using integer resolution for all motion vectors and all block vectors is signaled in the current. In another embodiment, if a coded block is coded in the inter prediction mode or the IntraBC mode, the coded MV or BV is converted to a converted MV or BV having fractional-pel resolution if a resolution indicator for the coded block specifies integer resolution. The system then stores the converted MV or BV for encoding or decoding of subsequent blocks.

Abstract: A method for decoding of a video bitstream including receiving coded data for a 2N×2N coding unit (CU) from the video bitstream, selecting one or more first codewords according to whether asymmetric motion partition is disabled or enabled, selecting one or more second codewords when a size of the 2N×2N CU is equal to a smallest CU size, wherein none of the second codewords corresponds to INTER N×N partition when N is 4, determining a CU structure for the 2N×2N CU from the video bitstream using the first codewords or the second codewords, and decoding the video bitstream using the CU structure. A corresponding method for encoding a 2N×2N coding unit of video data is also disclosed.

Abstract: A method of video coding using palette coding mode for color video in a non-444 color format is disclosed. The non-444 video data can be converted to the 444 format so that the palette designed for the 444 format can be used for the non-444 video data. For the 4:2:0 color format, each chroma sample collocated with corresponding quad luma samples is padded with three chroma samples to form converted quad chroma samples. For the 4:2:0 color format, if a current pixel does not belong to the color palette, one or more escape values are signaled for the current pixel and the escape value associated with the chroma sample of the current pixel for each color component is not signaled for three of the quad chroma sample locations collocated with corresponding quad luma samples.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of coding a palette table using a palette predictor list operate by receiving input data associated with a current block in a picture, receiving a current palette for a current block in the picture, and receiving the palette predictor list for the current palette. For a current position of the palette predictor list, the operations determine a current palette predictor run, wherein a distance between the current position of the palette predictor list and a next position of a next palette entry of the palette predictor list corresponds to the current palette predictor run. Further, the operation constrains a syntax element representing the current palette predictor run to a range of values to cause the next palette entry of the palette predictor list to be within the palette predictor list, and signal or parse the syntax element in a bitstream for the current block.

Abstract: A method of block vector (BV) prediction for an IntraBC mode (Intra-block copy mode) coded block in a video coding system according to the present invention is disclosed. Multiple BV candidate lists are derived from neighboring blocks of the current block. A BV candidate list is selected as a BV predictor for the BV of the current block. The current block is coded based on an Intra reference block located according to the BV of the current block. In one embodiment, a left-bottom (LB) block of the current block is used to derive the first BV candidate list and an above-right (AR) block of the current block is used to derive the second BV candidate list. A 1-bit index code is signaled to select a BV predictor between the first BV candidate list and the second BV candidate list.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of video coding using IntraBC (Intra Block Copy) mode are disclosed. The system derives a block vector pointing from the current block to a reference block within a reconstructed pixel area of the current picture. If the block vector is at the fractional-pel resolution, the block vector is restricted so that neighboring pixels at integer-pel locations around fractional-pel reference pixels of the reference block for generating the fractional-pel reference pixels of the reference block using an interpolation filter are all available within the reconstructed pixel area. In another embodiment, the unavailable reference pixels for interpolation to generate fractional-pel reference pixels are padded.
