    摘要: A method and apparatus for parsing signomial and geometric programs, referred to herein as “the Parser”. Signomial and Geometric programming is a unique class of mathematical problems that is useful in the study of optimization problems. The Parser is a program designed to recognize and parse both signomial and geometric programs such that they may be accepted and solved by signomial and geometric program solvers. The Parser accepts an optimization problem from a user in the form of algebraic expressions. The Parser can then identify the problem as a signomial program and can further determine if it reduces to a geometric program. If either a signomial or geometric program exists, the Parser converts the algebraic expressions to a compact numeric format that can be accepted by a computer-aided solver. In the case of a geometric program, the solver may find a global solution to the optimization problem. However, in the case of signomial program, the solver may only find a local solution. The solution found by the solver is routed back to the Parser which reports it in a user-readable format.

    摘要: System for producing rolls of air-filled cushioning material which includes a machine for inflating and sealing a preconfigured film material to form a continuous sheet of air-filled cushioning material, and a winder having a spindle for receiving the inflated cushioning material from the machine, a drive motor for rotating the spindle to wind the inflated cushioning material into a roll on the spindle, and means for controlling the motor in accordance with the diameter of the roll to maintain substantially uniform tension in the material as the material is wound into the roll. In one disclosed embodiment, the diameter of the roll is monitored by a feeler arm, and in another it is determined from the rate at which the spindle is rotating and the rate at which the material is wound onto the roll.

    摘要: A method is described for optimal simultaneous design and floorplanning of integrated circuits. The method is based on formulating the problem as a geometric program, which then can be solved numerically with great efficiency. Prior work discloses the design of many different analog circuit cells such as operational amplifiers, spiral inductors, and LC oscillators which can be cast as geometric programs. The present disclosure adds to this layout floorplanning constraints in posynomial form that can be mixed with design constraints for different analog circuits. This allows the simultaneous design and floorplanning of numerous analog circuits using geometric programming. Thus, the design and floorplanning can be performed optimally in a single step.

    摘要: The invention is directed to automatic hardware and firmware generation preferably for multi-function custom control development. In particular, the invention involves generating the schematic and the firmware together, such that they integrate together to provide functionality as described in a functional description of the desired control. A method of automatic hardware and firmware generation includes (i) providing a plurality of hardware schematics, each schematic having a unique identifier corresponding to a set of functions; (ii) providing a plurality of firmware modules, each firmware module including code for performing a function; (iii) generating a functional description that identifies a desired set of functions; and (iv) processing the configuration file and the plurality of firmware modules to generate executable firmware code that implements the desired set of functions and to select one of the hardware schematics that supports the desired set of functions.

    摘要: Optimization design method for configurable analog circuits and devices resulting from same. An implementation fabric for a given application domain can be accurately pre-characterized in terms of devices and parasitics. Customization structures are designed and characterized to be applied to the fabric to customize a device for a particular application. In some embodiments, characterization is accomplished by formulating a configurable design problem as an optimization with recourse problem, for example, a geometric programming with recourse (GPR) problem. Devices can be produced for multiple applications from the application domain using the same optimized fabric to provide predictable performance.

    摘要: An expandable cage is expanded within a narrowed region of a blood vessel. The expandable cage has openings therein so that plaque protrudes through the openings when the cage is expanded. A material removing element passes within the cage to remove the plaque extending into the openings. The openings are preferably formed by integrally formed elements which provide a smooth internal surface. The material removing element passes along the smooth internal surface when removing the plaque. A collection bag is coupled to the material removing element to capture the material which has been removed.

    摘要: Catheters, kits, and methods are provided for removing material from a body lumen. The catheters and methods may be used in a variety of body lumens, including but not limited to coronary and other arteries. In general, the catheter has a cutting element that cuts material while the material is engaged by a material capture device on the catheter body. Preferably, the material capture device tensions the material during cutting, which reduces the amount of cutting force required. The material capture device typically follows a path that draws material into the catheter body. Preferably, but not necessarily, the material capture device may be arranged on the catheter body to advance along a path outwardly from the catheter body into the material and then inwardly towards the catheter body to tension the material. The cutting element on the catheter body moves between a first position and a second position to cut the material while in tension.
