Abstract:
Disclosed is a flanged bearing for supporting a shaft and adapted to be fitted in an opening formed in a housing, the bearing being produced by applying sintered copper alloy powder to one side of a length of a steel plate, rolling the steel plate into a cylinder with the copper alloy layer disposed on the inside of the cylinder, cutting an annular clearance means around the inner periphery of the cylinder, forging the cylinder at the end thereof adjacent to the clearance means, and machining the periphery of the flange to finish the flange as a precise circle.
Abstract:
In order to provide smoother transition for speed changes, a variable speed pulley having a movable sheave half and a fixed sheave half is provided with a torque cam. A spring biases the second sheave half axially of the first sheave to vary the width of a belt receiving groove. The torque cam forces the second sheave half in the same direction as the spring when the torque of a load operatively connected into the pulley assembly is increased. A centrifugal thrust arrangement urges the second sheave half in a direction reverse to the direction caused by the spring responsive to the rotational speed of the pulley.

Abstract:
A data multiplex transmission system including a data multiplexer, a demultiplex controller and a clock generator for terminal interface is disclosed, in which one block of an error correction code of a variable word length whose rate can be easily matched with the multiplex rate is set into one transmission frame. The multiframes of the least common multiple of the number of multiframes such that the multiplex rate which cannot be matched in one transmission frame is matched are set, thereby allowing the bit stuff reference timing to be integratedly handled. Further, transmission frame header information and control data link are provided, thereby allowing the multiplex transmission to be executed in accordance with a predetermined communication procedure. This transmission frame can realize the advanced communication by the header information and control data link. Thus, the data multiplex transmission can be performed with a simple construction while keeping the high efficiency and high reliability. Further, the transmission frame pull-in time is reduced by the bit error permission type pattern matching for the multiframe sync bits.
Abstract:
A bicycle ergometer includes an eddy current brake having a flywheel rotor assembly including an inner part of iron material having a carbon content of 0.12% or less and a silicon content of 0.35% or less, a stator provided inside the rotor assembly, a plurality of exciting coils provided on the stator, and a power source for energizing the exciting coils. The outer part of the flywheel rotor can be made of concrete. The ergometer includes an input panel for inputting physical attributes of the user, e.g., age and sex, a pulse sensor for measuring the heart rate of the user at rest and during exercise on the ergometer, an arithmetic control circuit for calculating a training program and heart rate range and for controlling the eddy current brake to present a load to the user which will maintain the user's heart rate in a predetermined range. The method of using the ergometer enables a user to select a physical strength program and a weight reduction program with the selected program reflecting the age, sex, and the present physical condition of the user.
Abstract:
An apparatus for producing oxygen enriched air from the atmospheric air, including an oxygen enriching system employing a fan for inducing a flow of atmospheric air through an oxygen enriching unit and a pump for deriving the oxygen enriched air from the oxygen enriching unit, a sound-proof box for encasing the fan and pump, an air intake passage having not less than five bends and an air exhaust passage also having not less than five bends. The oxygen enriching unit is provided with a unit for adjusting an oxygen concentration to a constant level regardless of any change in the atmospheric temperature.
Abstract:
An adjustable speed transmission according to the present invention comprises a variable speed pulley drive system and a multiple speed gear drive system. The pulley system and gear system are combined with a reversible gear system to provide a speed transmission system which is variable over a wide range of speeds while utilizing a conventional belt type speed pulley system.
Abstract:
A variable pulley structure (10) arranged to be mounted to a shaft (17) with at least one of the sideplate elements (14) thereof movably mounted to the shaft for both axial and rotational movement. Disposition of the movable sideplate element (14) is controlled by a spring (26) extending between a spring retainer (22) fixed to the shaft (17) and a portion (24) of the sideplate element. The spring (26) is retained at its opposite ends to the retainer and sideplate element, respectively, suitably to be unwound as a result of increased torque developed in the movable sideplate element (14) by the drive system. The ends (29,30) of the spring (26) are releasably connected to the retainer and movable sideplate element as by reception in arcuate grooves (27,28) therein, by abutment with suitable stop shoulders (131,132) thereon, etc. Cross section of the spring, in one form, is round and in another form for use in transmitting high load torques, is rectangular.
