The needle bar carries a needle board on the bottom thereof having a plurality of needles, the needle bar being guided by means of a moveably mounted bar carrier. The bar carrier is driven by a vertical drive in an oscillating manner in up and down movements. For straight guidance of the bar carrier, a guiding device is provided, which has at least one rocker held at the end by a rotary bearing of a machine frame. In order to obtain the straightest possible guide path in the bar carrier, according to the invention the opposite end of the rocker and the bar carrier are connected by a plurality of members of a coupling kinematic mechanism.

The two outer flows and the two inner flow each have the same number of cells. In an internal combustion engine supercharged by a pressure-wave supercharger (2), a lambda probe (7) is used for measurement of the oxygen content in the circuit. The oxygen content determined by the lambda probe (7) creates a measuring signal (9), which is used for controlling the throttle valve (4) and/or the starting valve (6). This control is aimed at reducing the NO.sub.x emissions from the combustion and possibly ensuring the regeneration of an exhaust gas particle filter (3) integrated in the circuit. In this arrangement, the lambda probe (7) is to be placed in the low-pressure exhaust gas line (444), which has a positive effect on the response capability and the accuracy of the measured data of the probe (7). This obviates the need for additional aids for the correction of pressure fluctuations such as occur at other points in the circuit of the internal combustion engine.

A process for operating an internal-combustion engine with a supercharger which can be cut out, and a device for carrying out the process are disclosed. The engine has, aside from the supercharger or compressor which can be cut in or out as desired, an exhaust-gas return arrangement. No exhaust gas can be conveyed back into the intake line when the compressor is cut in and therefore when there is a pressure rise at the cylinder inlet to above atmospheric pressure and above the pressure prevailing in an exhaust-gas line. The return of exhaust gas into the intake line is prevented in such a way that an exhaust-gas return line opens, opposite a supercharger delivery line from the supercharger, into an intake line to the engine. A shut-off member is arranged at this junction so that during suction operation of the engine the shut-off member closes the supercharger delivery line and during supercharging operation the shut-off member closes the intake line, above the supercharger delivery line, and the exhaust-gas return line.

A starting valve is disclosed having a starter choke valve and a poppet valve which is kept closed by the starter choke valve when the choke valve is in an open position. For mounting the starter choke valve there is provided a choke shaft and a bushing set screw which interact with a plurality of tapered bushes. The arrangement provides for an axial and a radial compression of the bushes to prevent foreign matter from fouling the movement of the choke. Also a compensation for the varying tolerances between the component parts is accomplished by providing a plurality of rubber-elastic components.
