Abstract: A bearing comprises a resin matrix filled with fluoropolymer, graphite, and other discrete particles of an additive material that is attached to a backing material. The specific selection and mix of fillers with the resin matrix provides the desired blend of bearing properties such as wear resistance, fatigue and erosion resistance and low friction whilst maintaining sufficient flexibility for being formed into flanged cylindrical geometries without detriment to the adherence of the lining to the backing. A method for manufacturing a bearing comprises depositing to a backing material a fluid polymer bearing material comprised of a resin matrix filled with fluoropolymer, various fillers, and discrete particles of an additive to form a continuous consolidated bearing material, and curing the lining material to bond the lining material onto the backing material.

Abstract: A friction bearing composite material comprises a metal base layer, a porous support layer applied thereto, and a low friction layer made from PTFE forming a bearing surface for a bearing partner. The low friction material forming the sliding surface also fills the pores in the support layer and comprises at least 60 vol. % PTFE and 10-25 vol. % zinc sulphide. In order to achieve a high wear resistance with a low coefficient of friction, the low friction material further comprises 1.5-3.5 vol. % carbon fibers and 1-7 vol. % PFA.

Abstract: A polytetrafluoroethylene is added to a base resin consisting essentially of polyether ether ketone so that the proportion of polytetrafluoroethylene becomes 0.1 to 50% by weight based on the resin layer and dispersed in the form of particles in the base resin, whereby when the resulting resin layer is bonded to a backing metal to form a composite bearing, the peel strength of the resin layer per se and mechanical strength such as bonding force or the like between the backing metal and the resin layer can be inhibited from being deteriorated. When polytetrafluoroethylene having a molecular weight of 300,000 to 500,000 is used, it can be more easily dispersed in the form of particles in the base resin.

Abstract: A dynamic-pressure fluid bearing comprises bearing parts formed by a pair of dynamic-pressure surfaces. One of the dynamic-pressure surfaces of the bearing parts is a polyamideimide coating thicker than 3 .mu.m and the other surface is metal. The bearing is particularly applicable to driving motors for polygon mirrors. Abstract: An improved sleeve bearing and associated lubrication system for the rotor shaft of a steam turbine. The bearing is lined with a metallic-polymeric composite, and is fixedly supported within a housing defining a reservoir containing a supply of liquid lubricant. The lubrication system includes a ring loosely surrounding the rotor shaft at a location spaced axially from the bearing. A lower portion of the ring is partially submerged in the lubricant. The ring is rotatably driven in response to rotation of the rotor shaft, with lubricant picked up on the ring being centrifugally discharged radially outwardly onto the surrounding housing walls. A system of communicating troughs, scuppers and passageways receives lubricant running off the housing walls for delivery under gravity to the bearing. Return passageways direct lubricant exiting from the bearing past water cooled chambers, over a weir and back to the reservoir.

Abstract: There is disclosed a composite slide member which suppresses the exposure of a porous metal layer even when the amount of cutting from a surface of the slide member increases, thereby enhancing an anti-seizing property without adversely affecting a rear resistance. The composite slide member includes a back plate, and a slide layer including a porous metal layer with a porosity of 50% to 80% and a composite synthetic resin composition impregnated and coated in pores of the porous metal layer. The porous metal layer is joined to a surface of the back plate. The porous metal layer is formed by sintering metal powder without applying pressure thereto, and an apparent density of the metal powder is 20% to 40% of its theoretical density. The porous metal and the composite synthetic resin are dispersed on a sliding surface of the slide layer in a substantially mixed condition.
