Abstract: A first wireless device receives, from a base station, a configuration of first reference signals to be transmitted on a first time-frequency resource and a configuration of second reference signals to be transmitted on a second time-frequency resource. The first wireless device measures one of the first reference signals and the second reference signals. The first wireless device switches to measuring the other one of the second reference signals, wherein the first reference signals are measured to generate first measurements and the second reference signals are measured to generate second measurements. The first wireless device obtains a selection of a communication path, for communicating data between the base station and the first wireless device. The first wireless device obtains a first radio frequency (RF) signal from one or more RF signals carried through the communication path.

Abstract: A User Equipment (UE), and associated method, including a wireless transceiver, configured to perform wireless transmission and reception to and from a cellular station. A controller is configured to use a first preamble to perform a synchronous transmission on a PRACH to the cellular station via the wireless transceiver, and use a second preamble to perform either of at least two different types of transmission, the two different types of transmission comprising an asynchronous transmission and a synchronous transmission to the cellular station via the wireless transceiver; wherein the controller is further configured to receive a random access response to the synchronous transmission from the cellular station via the wireless transceiver, and wherein a Timing Advance (TA) estimation is not required for the synchronous transmission.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for initial access in the multi-beam operation. In one novel aspect, the UE receives multiple response messages and selects one message as the response message. In one embodiment, the UE selects a subset of a configured UL resources, transmits a first message, wherein the first message is transmitted one or more times on each of the selected set of UL resources, receives one or more first-message-response messages from the BS, and selects one response message, wherein the selected response message indicates a corresponding BS RX resource, which is used by the UE for subsequent communication with the BS. In one embodiment, the selection of UL resources is at least based on transmitting spatial characteristics of the BS, the UE or both, which indicates whether the BS/UE is reciprocal, partial reciprocal or non-reciprocal.

Abstract: A method of beam reciprocity state reporting and uplink beam management in wireless communication systems with beamforming is proposed. In one novel aspect, a BS configures one or more resource sets to a UE for uplink beam management. The one or more resource sets are allocated for UE to transmit UL reference signals using a number of UE beams. The number of UE beams to be trained is reported by the UE, e.g., via a “UE beam reciprocity state (update)” message. The BS also indicates whether a fixed UE TX beam or which UE TX beam is used for transmission, or indicates whether different UE TX beams are used for transmission of different resources in a resource set. The BS then feedback measurement results for UE to choose a proper TX beam.

Abstract: A method of default Quasi-Co-Location (QCL) assumption for Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) reception in NR network is proposed. When PDSCH is scheduled by a DCI over PDCCH after a Scheduling Offset, the spatial RX filter for the PDSCH reception can be determined according to a QCL indication conveyed by the DCI. When the Scheduling Offset for PDSCH reception scheduled by DCI is less than a time duration, then a default QCL assumption is applied. UE assumes that the DMRS ports of PDSCH of a serving cell are QCLed with the RS(s) with respect to QCL parameter(s) used for PDCCH QCL indication of a CORESET. The CORESET is associated with a UE-monitored search space in the latest slot with the lowest CORESET-IF on an active BWP on the serving cell.

Abstract: A method of group-based beam reporting is proposed. The BS TX beams are grouped into groups to increase beam reporting efficiency. After measuring reference signals for beam management, UE reports RS quality to the network in beam groups. The beam grouping can be done either implicitly or explicitly. The grouping within the beam report is done by the UE with or without help from the network. According to principles of grouping mechanism, the grouping methods can be divided into two different categories. A first category is referred to as beam set based group, where UE groups TX beam information in a beam report based on its RX beam set(s). A second category is referred to as antenna group-based grouping, where UE groups TX beam information in a beam report based on UE antenna group.

Abstract: A UE determines (a) resources of a PDCCH indicating a PDSCH that contains a random access message or indicating an uplink grant for transmitting a random access message and (b) resources of a second PDCCH. The UE further determines, in a time domain, (a) that the first PDCCH overlaps with the second PDCCH, (b) that the first PDCCH overlaps with a second PDSCH that contains system data or user data and indicated by the second PDCCH, (c) that the first PDSCH overlaps with the second PDCCH, or (d) that the first PDSCH overlaps with the second PDSCH. The UE then determines that monitoring the second PDCCH is an unexpected operation.

Abstract: An incremental scheduling scheme is proposed in a wireless communication system with beamforming. In an initial stage (stage-1), coarse scheduling plan is granted via control beam transmission. In a second stage (stage-2), fine scheduling plan is granted via dedicated beam transmission. Such incremental scheduling scheme provides load balancing for overhead channels on control/dedicated beams via stage-2 scheduling. It utilizes dedicated beam transmission that is more resource efficient and more UE-specific. Furthermore, it provides UE natural power-saving opportunities via stage-1 scheduling.

Abstract: A method of supporting group communication over LTE MBMS is provided. A UE first establishes a unicast bearer in a network for group communication. The UE belongs to a communication group having a communication group ID. The UE receives access information from the network for monitoring downlink (DL) multicast traffic of the DL group communication based on a multicast decision. The UE is then ready for monitoring a multicast Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) bearer for receiving the DL multicast traffic. In one embodiment, The UE requests to switch the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer to the unicast bearer upon detecting that the UE is approaching an MBMS coverage boundary. In another embodiment, the UE transmits an indication of preferred target cells to the network before performing a handover and thereby maintaining multicast service continuity of the group communication.
