Abstract: A method of removing carbon dioxide from an atmosphere and generating hydrogen includes capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in an alkaline capture solution, sending the alkaline capture solution to a series of electrolyzers in a CO2-rich path, wherein each electrolyzer cell raises the acidity of the input CO2-rich solution to produce an acidified CO2-rich solution, removing carbon dioxide from the acidified CO2-rich solution at a carbon dioxide removal unit operation to produce a CO2-poor solution, sending the CO2-poor solution to the series of electrolyzers in a return path, wherein each electrolyzer raises the alkalinity of the return CO2-poor solution to produce a basified CO2-poor solution, wherein a difference in pH between the CO2-rich solution and the CO2-poor solution within each electrolyzer is less than 3, and returning the basified CO2-poor solution to the carbon dioxide capture unit operation.

Abstract: A system comprises a first electrode, an electrolyte membrane, and a second electrode. The first electrode is configured to reduce oxygen in a gas to an oxygen carrier ion at an intermediate temperature. The electrolyte membrane is configured to transport the oxygen carrier ion, and the second electrode is configured to oxidize the oxygen carrier ion to an oxygen molecule. Oxidation of the oxygen molecule consumes less than four electrons.

Abstract: Methods comprising: evaporating a catalyst source to produce a catalyst gas; condensing the catalyst gas to produce a catalyst vapor comprising catalyst droplets suspended in a gas phase; and contacting the catalyst vapor with a hydrocarbon gas to catalyze a decomposition reaction of the hydrocarbon gas into hydrogen gas and carbon. And, systems comprising: a catalyst source evaporator that provides a first stream to a reactor; a hydrocarbon source that provides a second stream to the reactor; a cooling column coupled to the reactor via a third stream comprising hydrogen, catalyst liquid, solid carbon, optionally catalyst gas, and optionally unreacted hydrocarbon gas such that the cooling column receives the third stream from the reactor; and wherein the cooling column has effluent streams that include (a) a fourth stream that comprises hydrogen and optionally catalyst gas and (b) a fifth stream that comprises catalyst liquid.

Abstract: A composition of matter includes a first compatible material having particles containing chemical elements similar to a first substrate, and second compatible material having particles containing chemical elements similar to a second substrate, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are chemically different. The particles are dispersed into a matrix that is in between the first and the second substrate. A deposition system has a multi-material printhead, a first reservoir of a first compatible material having particles containing chemical elements similar to a first substrate, a second reservoir of a second compatible material having particles containing chemical elements similar to a second substrate, a third reservoir of an polymer precursor material, and at least one mixer. A method of bonding a joint between dissimilar substrate materials includes functionalizing a first compatible material having chemical elements similar to a first substrate, mixing the first compatible material with a polymer precursor material, functionalizing a second compatible material having chemical elements similar to a second substrate, mixing the second compatible material with a polymer precursor material, and using the deposition system to deposit the first and second compatible materials and a polymer precursor material on the joint between the first and second substrate materials.

Abstract: A device controls levels of carbon dioxide and water in a controlled environment. The device comprises a first electrode chamber, which receives an input fluid comprising first concentrations of carbon dioxide and water and is configured to deliver a first output fluid having concentrations of carbon dioxide and water lower than the first concentrations to a first environment, and a second electrode chamber having an outlet configured to deliver a second output fluid having third concentrations of carbon dioxide and water to a second environment. A reduction catalyst layer in the first electrode chamber reduces carbon dioxide and water in the input fluid to form ionic carrier species, an ion-transporting membrane is positioned between the first and second electrode chambers and comprises carrier species, and an oxidation catalyst layer in the second electrode chamber oxidizes the ionic carrier species to form carbon dioxide and water.

Abstract: A system includes an electrodialysis device with a salinate chamber through which a salinate stream flows. A desalinate chamber is separated from the salinate chamber by a central, ion-selective membrane. A desalinate stream flows through the desalinate chamber. An anolyte chamber and a catholyte chamber are on opposite outer sides of the salinate and desalinate chambers and separated therefrom by first and second ionic exchange membranes. A solvent exchange interface is in contact on a first side with the salinate stream and is in contact a media flow on a second side. The solvent exchange interface moves a solvent from the media flow to the salinate stream.
